    It is Friday, right?

I’m asking as I don’t have access to a 3D printer to experiment.

I wanted to add a “visor” around the reverse camera lens so that water droplets fall off instead of sliding onto the center of the lens and obscuring the view.

I figured there’s a lot of accessories that can be deemed as unnecessary, but they exist and they sell so why not. I really need an excuse to spam the what have done to your… thread.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Nice idea but...
    It's a wide-angle lens on the camera.
Will a cover/visor obscure a portion of its field of view?
If you cut it back so you can't see the edges of the visor. will it really be as effective as Rain-X?
    Inquiring minds want to know.

    Oh look, another mod....
It's a great Friday thread, but...do you back up that much or drive in reverse for long periods of time for this to be a real issue?

Any time reverse camera mod

I’m trying to create a permanent solution to something that’s really not a problem. :anonymous:

I keep an old t-shirt in the cab. I wipe the lens when I know I need to back up after heavy rain. It seems like the lens collects water when parked in heavy rain. I don’t notice it looking like the picture in post #2 after driving in heavy rain.

This right here. It's been a rainy spring, and after realizing the back up camera has essentially 0 protection (my genesis was shielded and rarely had anything on it). I just keep a microfiber in the door. If I shift to reverse and can't see, I just get out and clean it off.

I'm trying the rain-x idea though.

Put a piece of electrical tape over the lens.

You won't see the water any more, although you will have to back up 'old school', by turning your head and using the 3 mirrors.

Sounds archaic! Maybe if toyota gave us swing out or folding tow mirrors like a Ram we wouldn't need that reverse camera! Visibility is near 0! Anyways, it's been handy for lining up to a trailer although the pointed down angle does make it a little harder to see farther back, hence using your mirrors lol. I almost fell in to the grand canyon because of the downward aiming! Glad I checked my mirrors!

Also, rear view mirrors with a topper or OL rack, those become useless lol.

I have Rain-x on a shelf in my garage and will give it a try too. I am just too lazy to even get around to applying it to the windshield let alone the backup camera.

...I had all the motivation in the world to do stuffs to the Taco when I first purchased. Now parts lay around for a few weeks and go 'it gets done when it gets done'
