My primary car is a sports car thats been in the shop the past 6+ months after getting hit with concrete from a falling truck on the highway so looking for a second more practical vehicle and likely a dd replacement. Came across the tacoma's which im the most fond of. Been looking at a new 2022 TRD off-road. Is this the best grade for a tacoma? Do want the off-road features but will also be dd on streets the majority and will want to customize with aftermarket upgrades.

Is finding one of these at MSRP impossible? Most dealers I call have them "coming in" but cant provide a vin # and want non-refundable deposits and bullshit 2500-7500 market adjustment free cash on top of MSRP and/or couple thousand of made up dealer add on packages for tire repairs and other bs. Zero chance i'll pay a penny in "market adjustment" bullshiit and really find it hard to pay for the bs dealer add on packages. Seems quite generous enough to be paying MSRP as it is.

Is there anything from the 2023 announcement feature wise thats worth holding off for or value wise both purchase cost and long term value wise worth holding for a 2023?

What area do you live in? Someone may be able to point you in the direction of a MSRP dealer.

I got the offroad, I like it. Just depends on your wants and needs to determine what model you should get and the features from 2022 to 2023 aren’t significant. I suggest browsing each trim level and what they offer. And since you plan on modifying it I wouldn’t worry about which suspension comes on which, I’d just worry about features.

    welcome btw!

There are a lot of dealers still selling for MSRP. Look around and there's a thread on here of dealers selling at MSRP. I decided on the OR because it had the features I wanted and I knew I'd be upgrading a few things. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I'm in Dallas TX.

At least from the website the off-road seems the best fit but wanted to make sure I wasnt missing out on anything from the TRD sport or TRD pro. The dealers are obviously sleazy snakes and can't get an honest answer out of them.

Ha. We're neighbors. There are a few dealers in Ft Worth that are offering competitive pricing. Whatever you do, do not go to Toyota of Dallas, they are trying to sell SR's and SR5's for $46k!

I bought a Tacoma for the same reasons you did, I daily drive it 99% of the time. I bought in last year before the market took off, so no upcharges for me. I've customized the hell out of mine and love it. I get so many smiles per gallon....and compliments!

There are no changes from 2022 to 2023 other than pricing and maybe a color was added? But no options were removed or added.

Here's a list of all available Taco's near me. I'm in the SW Arlington area.

"Best grade" is subjective. My advice is to test drive all models possible so you can see the differences yourself. They are all pretty capable stock for most off-roading honestly, unless you're really going hard. Also, the mods you are wanting to do could help you determine what package you should start with (e.g. If you're wanting to customize/replace everything with aftermarket goodies, you may be better off starting with an SR5).

Also be aware any stock Tacoma is not going to drive or perform like a sports car. Depending on what you have, a Tacoma will most likely feel slow.

If you're a sports car guy you might like the tighter ride of the Sport....on the other hand you may want the cushier ride of the Off Road when you're not driving your sporty car.

Def not expecting it to drive the same :) I have a Jag F-Type R (or the shop does anyway) so not expecting similar driving experiences. This is more for practical purposes and off-roading/going shooting etc.

Looks like the TRD Pro is really the best but nearly impossible to find anywhere let alone in black and msrp. Am I missing that much if I were to settle for the off-road and would I regret it?

If you're going to mod the truck in any way, get the Off Road. The price increase isn't worth it, in my opinion.

If you’re going to leave it stock, Pro might be worth the MSRP, but they’ll want serious market adjustment coin…. So probably not worth it.

I drive daily in dfw with my offroad and really enjoy it. I’m planning on upgrading suspension in about another 15k miles; 75,000. Looking for a better performing set both on and offroad. Expecting to spend about $2k. I have a 2 door weekender like you, so am happy to have something completely different. In fact, it’s better that it’s so different because I enjoy each more when driving them.

    The most common decisions are:
    Manual vs Automatic
    4x4 vs 2x4
    Access cab vs 4 door

if I were buying again, I’d be looking for a manual access cab offroad. Unfortunately you can’t configure it in this area so likely the allocations here are minuscule. If you set your zip to Arizona or somewhere else, I think you can configure that. At least you can in the automatic.

Canada is the only place to get an Off Road MT Access Cab, you have to get a sport in the USA.

That makes sense and i'm just looking for 4x4, automatic, 4 door so that part is easy. I've found a good share of off roads in black coming in within couple weeks with that config just need to find a MSRP one if I go with that option.

Does the Pro look that much diff than the off road ascetically? I haven't been able to find one in person to see but from the description sounds like it looks alot nicer and cooler with what it comes with.

The Pro is where it is at! (At MSRP… but therein lies the pickle)

I was looking for a well-equipped OR but the you get close to PRO $$$. The PRO adds some cool upgrades.

It was all about finding a manual gearbox for me.

Stock leather, sunroof, hood scoop, suspension, led headlights, and probably some electronic goodies and other subtle pro styling. I suspect that can all be added to an offroad from the factory other than hood and suspension. But that can be done aftermarket, but why? Just get the pro at that point.

If the electronic goodies and hood/suspension don’t matter, offroad every day for the savings.
