Not even close. I’m kinda having a hard time visualizing what he’s trying to accomplish here. Maybe one of you guys can help me out.

Most all truck frames or full framed vehicles in general were built like this. In fact until extruded al subframes got popular a lot of steel subframes were built like this. It's not junk just an engineering and design choice for ease of manufacturing not to mention crumple zones and meeting crash ratings.

You will need a 220v/250a welder, .045 flux core wire, and 75/25 gas to properly weld 1/2" steel.

A 110 welder with gasless flux wire from Tractor supply wont be sufficient.

Some think he's a nutjob some think he's a folk hero. I'll take cautionary tale of America's struggle to come to grips with mental health issues as a realistic answer.

Seems like this frame may not be salvageable not without major cutting welding which is difficult to do with the body still on.

The spaces are so big on this multi pos i can stick a screw driver through in it. Anyone tried Eastwood internal frame coating?

Trying to salvage this junk if possible.

It's hilarious to me the OP calling the frame and its design junk when he doesn't have a clue why it's built the way it's built. His 1/2" thick metal was equally hilarious. I see a train coming off of its track.

If the design is not junk then explain why Toyota had only the biggest frame recall due to premature rust ever.
Theres no way in hell if this frame was all or mostly one piece it would have rusted this fast, are you a engineer do you work for Toyota?

Also the two pieces of metal together are a half inch (measure calipers told me this) have you ever tried to weld two pieces riveted together or you just troll about things that are hilarious ?

This is all you need. Get a Hobart from HF and get after it. I have had this Miller for 17+ years. Gone through 10 liners and 3 guns.

In this case, what you are wanting to weld, per your description, is basically butt welding two 1/4" pieces. Maybe even a little bit of a lap joint.

Set the welder to parameters for 1/4" material, and off you go.

I would *highly* suggest doing some learning on metal construction, fabrication and welding before you go anywhere near your truck. There are things there that are constructed the way they are for a reason, and most of the time, it’s a good one. Sometimes it’s an economic reason, but many times it’s an engineering reason.

After that, carefully consider the long term effects of whatever thing you intend to do here and whether it’s going to work out or just cause more problems. Frames are not a good place to learn to weld.

We use Miller/Lincoln units at work (heavy industrial welding) and they both work well. All of our mobile diesel units are Miller. Been very reliable.

A good friend purchased an ESAB and that is a nice machine. Not this one, but this is a good starter setup.

My buddies welder is something like this:
    2420EBB5-9CC6-436E-B6EA-C63748259A8E.jpg

He split his Dynatrak ProRock 60 right down the center of the pumpkin. We stripped the axle down to the housing, prepped, preheat, nickel rod, welded up the case, post heat treated the housing and he has been running it like that since 2017 with a healthy LS3 under the hood.

I had something typed up on what needs to be done but I'll just replace it with, I wish you the best in your endeavor.

Couple people have posted what you need to do and you seem to be ignoring it or thinking you have a better understanding of what's going on.

You obviously have not worked on a NE chevy or 3rd gen dodge ram. You see the difference is the clientele of purchaser. I've seen just as many Chevys, Dodges, and Fords same issues same ages or younger. The loudest whiner gets the pacifier. Hell I was replacing cheap ass plastic plug wire looms on 20+ yr old chevy, buick, olds, pontiacs under recall because they could collect oil from a leaking valve cover gasket and cause a fire . There are 100000s of recalls from all manufacturers some actually good some like the toyota frame recall were based off a lawsuit and are good will recalls more so than safety.

Very similar to mine, a millermatic 185, 20+ years and still on the same gun & liner. But it’s rarely used.
