Subaru Outback gets 26-33 mpg and you still get a four wheel drive? Heard they may bring back a Subaru truck in the near future, might be all electric too?

Most of us who buy a four wheeler, use the 4x4 systems. Knowing the gas mileage is not the best.
Nothing like going off roads to your flavorite places. A 4WD takes you to other worlds, away from the “chaos “.

4-Wheeling is our “therapist” , medicine for the mind and souls.

    "What motorcycle did you buy?"

Zero FX. 20mi commute each way. Love it.

I take if off road and have used it and the track for the hell of it too. I love it. There are cheaper options out there lately too.

The problem is I enjoy driving my truck and the feeling of preparedness it gives me. It would be a wise financial decision to be riding my bicycle or driving my wife's Rav4.

I drive a diesel Ram and yup, I barely drive it anymore. $6.00+ a gal isn’t worth it. But the Z does pretty well.

Serious how far can you drive in Hawaii, like 50 miles then you fall in the ocean. How far from work can you be? :):):)

The best posts are the ones where folks are pissing away money for insurance on four cars, 10 bucks a day on Starbucks but they’re worried about gas prices. Silly people.

I don’t know about y’all but besides keeping the lead foot in check, which makes a yuuuge difference in mpg, I’ve cut off shit I don’t need, drive through coffee, fast food, sugar products, junk food…. (Was looking to do so anyway, just needed an excuse).
And the Taco remains my daily, haven’t a skipped a beat on that note:thumbsup:

Big Island , Four thousand square miles, the islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai, & Molokai will fit on the Big Island.
We have 8 climates zones, snow-deserts.
Mauna Loa is the largest mountain in the world, below sea level to top.
Mauna Kea is the highest mountain in the world from below sea level at 13,380 ft.
Hilo town is the rainiest city in the United States. 70% of the time it is raining.
I live in Kona Town, between the two main cities is 2 hr drive or 100 mile one way.

It takes 8 hour to drive around the island.
The good paying jobs are on the Kona side of the islands, mainly Hotels. Very common for people to drive Hilo to Kona side for work, 100 miles one way.

One of my flavorite fishing spots was 100 miles one way, Waikoloa to South Point, most Southern point in the USA. Had my Dodge Ram 9-10 miles per gallon. Lol

The price of gas hasn't really gone up. The purchasing power of the dollar has gone down. The price of fuel is only the market adjustment for the weak dollar.

I imagine there aren’t many long stretches of straight highway.

No ,We do not have long highways, most times 2+ hours drive the longest.
We have highways call Inter -State, not sure why?

On the Big island of Hawaii in 1982? There was only one traffic light, less then 100,000 people. Today over 200,000 people and growing. Traffic lights everywhere.

When we say we are driving around? We end up in the same place we started.

My truck was costing 600 for gas a month, i picked up a hybrid yesterday. Payments are 680 a month so kinda worth it.

    Truck 16 - 19 mpg
    Camry hybrid 51mpg

Tacoma’s don’t make good daily drivers if you drive a lot.

Wow ! Your Camry hybrid get 51 miles. Lucky for you can get a additional car. I have a 2001 Camry. I like this car. Easy to drive, park , good gas mileage, dependable. Power seats, strong A/C, comfortable.

People would laugh at the “Smart Car” , 33-39 mpg, 1.0 liter- 3 cylinders. Discontinued 2019?
Does not look safe in a accident.
There is a few owners of the Smart car, in Kona, Hawaii. People do not laugh at them anymore, because of the rising gas prices.

It’s not that simple. You now have added insurance cost monthly and depreciation. You definitely cost yourself a lot of money just to pay less for gas.

I’ve slowed down a little on the freeways. Makes somewhat of a difference. Getting better MPG’s for sure. I’m driving about 40 miles a day total, to work & back, so driving slower does help. I’m lucky I have the 4 banger too.
