Hello, So for the last 8 years I've been driving my sisters car with her permission. For whatever reason we never transferred the title from her name to mine which is fine, the car is paid off too. Fast forward to now and I'm in the market for buying a new Tacoma that comes to the dealership at the end of may. The problem is the current car we want to trade in is registered to Florida under my sisters name. I am currently active duty in Virginia and my sister lives in Colorado. I get out the navy on the beginning of the June and plan on driving back to Florida the moment I can. Anyone know if my sister and i can sign power of attorney giving me to the legal right to sell her car on her behalf.

Yes, she can do a Florida HSMV form #82053. You can print one from the Internet.

No, you bring it with you to the dealer. It is your proof you have authority to act on your sister’s behalf to sell her car, sign her title away, etc.

    None.
Your sister will need to have her signature done in the presence of a Notary.

Almost all of the Florida forms say that, because that is where individuals must go to process title and tag transactions in Florida. So, for a private sale, yes, you would bring the form to the tax collector. You are saying you are using a dealer, so the dealer will want the form. And, they’re also gonna make you do one with your name giving them power to do things too.

Really, most dealers just want the paper Florida title signed by the owner, and not much else. This is because Florida titles have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd reassignments on the back of them dealers use at the auctions and they don’t have to do anything else. Whichever dealer you are buying the Tacoma from, ask them what they want.
