Would have been standard issue in 2005 if the airdamn did anything.

The Hilux and Ranger look more aerodynamic than a Tacoma. I don't see anyone swaping the Tacoma front end for a Hilux front end, to get better fuel economy.

That's what I was thinking. It would have to literally sit lower in addition to the airdam to change much, but then that takes away then fun part of our Tacomas!
Especially with the fuel economy being as important as it is today, companies would be chomping at the bit to add an airdam to get higher ratings.

Considering Toyota spent countless millions of dollars going with a smaller displacement engine, direct injection, more gears in the automatic, and made it more aerodynamic than the previous generation only to gain maybe 2 MPG. Instead of all that investment in time and money they could have just simply screwed a 2 dollar spoiler on the old truck and called it a day, even Toyota lists the Models with and without the spoiler at the same MPG.

This makes sense, one question is the skid plate the same for models with and without an air damn?

They don't have to as far as trims go. Just the drive train combination for mpg as long as its all in the same body. My buddy began complaining his 2019 v6 auto trd would get worse economy after seeing my sr5 was always over 22 mpg.

I still do not believe it is possible to determine 1 MPG is the cause of a spoiler. There are so many factors that would have to be taken into consideration. As far as putting it on to save a few cents, I personally commute 90 miles a day. I like the look of no spoiler with the TRD skid plate. If it was proven to add 5 mpg having the spoiler on, I still wouldn't add it just for appearance.

You're definitely better at math than me. lol. But I'd give up $90 a year to not have that ugly spoiler on my truck. I just don't like the look.

I ran over a month without the spoiler driving the same roads, and speeds i usually do at the same time of year...summer. I filled up at least 3 times, and every time i got nearly the same 1 mpg and, change less than with the spoiler on. I noticed the wind noise increase immediately once i got passed 45 mph. This was with a stock truck. Toyota engineers aren't stupid, especially their bean counters. The spoiler is there for a reason, or they could saved themselves a few bucks.
As far as lifting the truck, and installing larger tires, imo, a spoiler isn't going to be much help. I think for some looks matter more than function, so it hard to convince them otherwise.

Might have saved me some gas or it might not have, but I took mine off after 1 year. I haven't notice the difference. As to question I saw in early part of this thread, gas prices will stop going up once the Fed destroys the economy again, which is coming. The cure for high prices is high prices.

Predator steps, TRD cat-back, lots of orange stickers.
I have mine. Lost the hardware. Took it off at 10,000 miles so I could take the truck of-roading and have the higher clearance. I'm near Virginia Beach, 15 minutes from the NC border. Come get it out of my shed. Pretty sure the bolt holes are there on your TRD Off-Road.

Mike Sweers giggled as he whispered it in my ear at Applebee's after getting tipsy half way through his second Bud Light draft.
Then, just before we slid him off his seat, took his keys and called a cab, he also admitted the vortex generators on the rear view mirrors didn't actually provide the high speed stability he'd bullshitted everyone about either..
    Who knew.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ran my 2020 TRD Sport with the air dam for 3 years, hesitating to remove it because the possibility of a gas mileage hit. I removed it about about 6 months to facilitate the installation of a front hitch. At the same time, I installed a front and mid skid plate from Victory 4x4. I was expecting a gas mileage hit after all that but my mileage has actually improved an average between 1.5 and2 mpg. I'm not sure what mod contributed to that or its just a different variable that I haven't accounted for. But this I know for sure, my mileage did not not any way decrease. Just one drivers actual experience.
