2013 Snugtop Rebel in Line-X Premier coating w/Uptop overland Bravo EX rack

 

Just picked it up are mx with alot of options only a month old

 

Maybe a long shot but…

Has anyone seen how a prinsu rack over the cab paired with Thule bars over the cap?

 

If you mean Thule factory crossbars mounted onto the Prinsu rack, then no I have not seen like that yet.

But if you mean Prinsu top rack can be mounted to Thule tracking rails, then yes.

 

I didn’t word my question right, my bad.

I’m wondering if someone has a prinsu cab rack (as is) and then a camper shell with regular Thule cross bars. I’m wondering how they would line up and what the height difference would be.

I’m wondering if it’s worth it to wait until I can afford both the cab rack and the topper rack

 

Oh I get it now... I had thule rack on topper for awhile... back rack is bit higher than prinsu rack on front. See my photo:



Now I have both Prinsu cap and top racks.

When you get Prinsu top rack for topper, you may want to get spacers so they will be level with cap rack but without them, they are barely even/level.

If you want to keep the thule rack on topper, then you may need spacers for cap rack but the wind deflector may look odd when you look at front of the truck if you use spacers, it's up to you.

Looking for some help from my fellow camper shell owners…

Is anyone running a roof top tent on a non-HD A.R.E. shell?

I have a custom built ARE CX arriving in a couple of weeks. I decided not to get the HD model for a few reasons, price being one of them.

I’ve asked ARE directly and they won’t even provide an estimate for the load capacity of the non-HD models. The dealer I purchased through said he thinks it can hold around 200 pounds, which obviously wouldn’t work with a RTT and me inside. I’m fairly certain he was just guessing though.

So does anyone have any real world experience with a RTT on a non-HD ARE cap? I’ll be buying a new tent soon and I’m trying to decide if I need to rule out a RTT as an option or if it may actually be possible.

Oh and my cap will have the Yakima racks installed from the factory, FWIW. Thanks in advance.

 

Depends on the weight but it's not recommended. Better off get HD ARE cap.

I guess tent, you, nothing else may be okay but you need to keep your stuff in cap not in tent... so you have less weight up there. You can get portable light unless they have light as option when you order tent.

What does ARE recommend for weight carrying capacity of the Yakama racks that will be installed at the factory?

They should be advising of this limitation especially if they are installing it at the factory.

 

When I called ARE directly, they wouldn’t give me any hard numbers. They just said to look at the Yakima website. That’s cool and all, I know what the Yakima racks can hold. I just don’t want my cap to buckle lol

They told me they only give exact weight capacities for their HD series cap. Fortunately the info that @TAZMINATOR PM’d answered my question.

 

Yakama rates their bars at 165 lbs total for two.
They have HD bars they rate at 300 lbs total for two.
I just picked up a set of the HD bars and they are nice and seem strong.

Think this is for dynamic rating and static is more like 500 lbs for the HD ones.

OP has non-HD cap... not strong enough for weight up there. Unless he plans to cancel order and get HD instead.

My topper has thick ceiling/roof which can hold RTT and other stuff.

 

Correct. I intentionally ordered the non-HD cap. Just making sure I can’t get a RTT up there before I start my tent shopping.

 

Instead of RTT on roof, you may want to consider to look into awning room which they have "6x8" or "8x8" in size so you can camp beside your truck.

 

What is the max load rating specified by ARE for his non HD topper? You would have to know this from the manufacture to make that conclusion otherwise it is just an opinion.

 

I have not seen inside of ARE cap in person. I can't find any info about it on ARE website.

I looked at the website that I gave him earlier via PM that says not recommended. So, it's up to him but if he uses RTT on his cap, then he can't load too much weight up there. Don't forget that he may have gf/wife that could go with him to camping... Maybe he has pets..

If he uses for one person only in RTT then it may be okay. If something happens to the cap, then we all know what to do (or do not) next time we get new cap.

 

Keep in mind that weight rating is usually dynamic load. So you don’t count people unless they are riding up there with it packed down.

Static load will be much higher.
