I put down a $500 deposit with a dealer and the salesman tried to tell me it was non refundable after the fact.... 4 months later they still didn't have an allocation, and I found a truck on my own in another state. The guy gave me my deposit back real quick... sales person is just trying to scare you, you can get it back.

All sales are contingent upon inspection at the time of delivery. If you do want to get your deposit back, politely inform them of this. Hopefully they get the point. This is what I did when I walked from a deal. They gave my deposit back…with some grumbling. Last resort, find something wrong at inspection.

That green is infectiously ugly anyway. :puke:Horrible resale. Take the BLACK  and the tailgate lock and bed lights can be bought from Amazon for $200-$300 and installed yourself really easy. Lots of write ups on the forums and people willing to help. Also, yes the dealer is BSing you.

Hopefully you've agreed on price before the non refundable deposit. :boink: The dealer can sell these trucks without trying; they don't need a non refundable deposit. Your credit should only be run if you're financing through them. You have to sign permission for them to do it anyway and by law you're entitled to a copy of your credit report/score.

Sounds like they're just trying to get everything lined up for when the truck becomes available. Could be a dealer trade or an allocation. Who knows. :notsure:

They can ask to change the color, but they can’t ask to add bed lights?

All deposits are refundable. In fact in California, unless you take a possession of the vehicle (drive it out of the lot) you can back out of the deal and get ALL of your money back. I am pretty sure same goes for most of the states.

It's "possible" to change a color of an incoming truck if done early enough, the dealerships receive a certain number of allocations and they may be able to swap trucks but you might have to wait longer to get it. It also helps to have multiple dealerships in your area.

I ordered a 2106 QS OR DCLB in Dec 2015 but at the time the dealer said they had an MGM OR DCLB that was due to arrive in Feb. They didn't know when a QS would arrive but they would look into swapping allocations with another dealer that was expecting the truck I wanted. There are 11 Toyota dealerships in a 100 mile radius in my area so there were plenty to contact.

In Feb 2016 I had the truck in the color I wanted.

In these new times with market adjustments and desperate buyers, they probably are trying to just sell the truck already scheduled to arrive. My guess with such limited inventory, there's no reason to put in any effort to please the customer because there will be someone who comes along to buy the black PRO even if the OP backs out of the deal.

I hadn't bought a new truck in nearly 20 years, but was somewhat surprised what fees these dealers charge extra over the sales tax, and registration. These states did this so they can collect these fees, its only passed on by the dealer. At any rate after doing some research, i got the entire invoice on my truck in writing before ordering it.

Not for the OP, but gap insurance usually has a cancel clause… you can get most if not all of your money back after you’ve done the deal. (You gotta be good at following up with the paperwork, though: they don’t make it simple.)

As far as the dealer request to “change” the color, no that’s not possible with Toyota. You simply will have to wait until the next Pro in black gets allocated to them. In this market with a super in demand model like the Pro you have to decide if you want to wait for the color you want or take what they get. That’s the auto business these days.

Do not let the dealer install these. You should be able to find the bed lights on Amazon for about $20-25. The wiring is already there, and should take about 15 minutes max to install. You can get the OEM tailgate lock kit for around $150, and it'll take about an hour to install.

All I can make sense of is that you signed some kind of paperwork, and wanting to change or add options after the fact. I can see why a dealer would push back in that case; that being said, I have no idea what kind of paperwork you did if you haven't figured out final pricing/financing (or maybe you have, but didn't include). The dealer will want to perform the work installing those add on parts you want, bc they'll get paid for it, and they won't have to jump through hoops to try and get the factory to do it (which is highly unlikely to be approved anyways). As for a color change, who knows if they can make that happen, but I assume if you've done paperwork with a VIN associated with a black truck, you're gonna get a black truck.

If year model production has ended, you have to go shopping for a Dealership that will get you as close to what you want...over their needs and wants. If a year model is still in production...order exactly what you want and make that deal.

Depends on the tech package if you take them. When i had to take a tech package to get some extra few items i wanted, the bed lights were already part of it when i asked the dealer for them.

Check your local laws, very often dealers are just claiming deposits are non-refundable hoping no know now's theyr aren't actually allowed.

It also makes no sense they're having you work on financing already when they're supposedly waiting for an allocation.
