Front Body Mount Noise Fix - That noise may not be your leaf springs

I installed the bushings earlier today and like most of you guys, I had to use a prybar in order to get the bolt to drop into the driver's side mount.

I'm a bit worried about the bolt. In order for me to remove the bolt after the install, I needed to use the prybar to move the body ever so slightly. When you guys used the prybar for installation, did you noticed that the bolt doesn't move from the tension caused by the body alignment? I'm worried about the bolt failing from the load caused by the body. I even tried applying pressure using the prybar when lowering the woodblock off the body hoping that the frame would remain aligned, but unfortunately only the bolt is keeping it aligned.

 

Trust me when I say that the body will fail way before the bolt does...

 

Thanks for the reply. I really wasn't expecting that kind of response lol. After thinking about it, the side load placed the bolt really isn't that much.

And some believe the poly bushings play a role by exaggerating the existing weakness in Toyota's engineering.

 

Just replaced my front body mounts at 38,000 miles, its been squeaking for the last year. Always thought it was the coil overs after replacing the stock TRD Pro springs with the Eibach TRD Pro lift springs. Passenger was toast, driver had little life left. 8.4109G. A little expensive but, anything worth doing.... The front body mount bushings are a direct replacement; same size upper bushing and no metal collar on the outside of the upper bushing. It was the inside metal sleeve on the factory bushing rubbing on the frame perch that caused the squeaking. Reasonable to believe the metal collar on the outside of the universal bushing will cause similar squeaking over time.

I looked up the part numbers for the front bushing on Energy Suspensions web site. For $48 shipped, you can purchase both body mount bushings (upper and lower) with washers and sleeves. It will take 10-12 weeks because the bushings are special order, but the rest of the hardware is on hand. A little more expensive then the universal bushings from Energy Suspension , but anything worth doing...



15.03.59.39: Washer (2" O.D. x .406" I.D)

If you reuse the stock sleeve and source the washers locally, just the bushings comes to a total of $30 shipped.

Crazy how much my cab mounts move Getting kinda tired of the cab bottoming out on my sliders, doubted that partially due to my sliders bending up

 

I did the replacement today with the universal kit from energy. Having a high clearance bumper made the job very easy.

Did anyone else have an issue with the hood being out of alignment after the new bushings?

 

I did notice that a while back, but couldn't figure out why. Dang!

3rd gen here...

No sway bars, new tie rods, new DRT FAB cab mount relocation (with new energy bushings), new Fox Coilovers.

Chasing a weird "bushing" sound. It is not metal on metal, but upon entering my driveway fast (3" lip) I can hear some rubber on rubber sound from the front drivers side in the area of these bushings. Occassionally on a nasty pothole/bump I can hear the noise on the road.

Did 20+ miles of rough gravel roads this weekend and the sound was almost constant. Somewhat alarming really. Was also occassionally evident on the passenger side as well. After a bit hit they would "rattle" 2-3 times.

Does anyone know if the

8.4109G kit works for 3rd gens?

Thanks, was planning on ordering this kit to just get the front body mounts out of it. They seem more correct than the universal ones everyone uses.

 

Hey there, do you have the correct washer on the bottom side of the cab mount? Also using anything other than the bushings we designed the kit to use may not work as they are probably a different thickness.

Just using the energy bushings supplied with your kit for the CMR.

Looking at getting the energy bushings to replace the radiator bushings that *may* be contributing to my noise.

 

Yes. The front ones are a better fit, but the bigger issue is cab alignment versus thickness. I had no trouble with the front bushing other than dealing with getting the bolt back through due to alignment.

 

Passenger dropped right in, drivers side was horrible. Ended up taking it to a shop to get the cab re-centered. But new mounts are in, and noise is still there or seems to be. Very hard to duplicate it on the road except for the nastiest of bumps. Easily duplicated on a real rough gravel road but unfortunately nothing around.

Truck goes to ECGS this week to get 5.29's, so I figure a few things will get loosened and re torqued. If the noise is still there I'll dive in further.

 

I loosened the other four and wiggled the cab around. That was good enough until we can buy a full set for the 3rd Gen.

That's not good about the noise though. If things are cured by the gear swap, I would be a bit more than surprised. Good luck though.

 

Ya I loosened all the cab mounts but I couldn't get the cab to shift enough. I'm a couple months out from Achilles surgery and am just going to blame it on that

I don't expect anything to be changed from the gears, but to pull the front diff some of the front suspension has to be unbolted and then retorqued after install. Luck is never on my side here but who knows.

It doesn't really sound like anything is loose, it's not metal on metal, it's something vibrating/resonating after a big impact. I was really thinking it was these front mounts but doesn't seem to be.

 

No good. At least you got is sorted out.

Just the lower ball joint mount. I've done it a few times doing the diff bushing swap. Nothing on up there would seem to vibrate, even loose. Leafs and rear mounts can be squeaky. I think folks noted that a cable coming out of the cab can vibrate on a heat shield?

 

For you 3g owners here are some pics from using the correct bushings out of the energy suspension 2g kit, as well as my roached factory bushings.

 

Im glad I saw this thread this morning. I've been meaning to post and ask about a metal on metal clicking sound coming from what I thought was the front driver's side of the truck. I was just looking around in the wheel well the other day and didn't see anything that stood out, but I may have to order these and give it a shot.

I'm only hearing the noise when I hit a pothole or go over a speed bump
