With the added benefit that a tune will not only fix anything wrong with your truck, but it will also cure cancer and bring about world peace. :anonymous:

Like 4 low doesn't have enough torque? c'mon man. I know people LOVE drinking the tune kool-aid but I gotta disagree.

OP is talking about dirt, inclines and standard off-roading. They aren't talking about bouldering over 18" rocks.

Isn't that like the first warning in the manual? Don't make tight turns in 4wd?

My sport climbs trails just fine. Air down to 15psi and you are good to go.

No shit. Apparently a Tacoma tune will lower gas prices, fix supply chain issues and allow the truck to ride on water.
Seriously tuner dudes, if the truck won't crawl up a hill in 4lo, a tune is not gonna help.
You guys are getting as bad as the Amsoil fanboys. Do you really have to promote it so much to justify the small gains it makes?

Yeah my truck had absolutely no issues in 4low on a stock tune. It actually crawled pretty nicely.

Gains are mostly when you are in 2hi or 4hi at lower rpms. Can really feel the difference in torque, 4low though…

That's my understanding too, but only from second hand info and literature since I've never played with a Sport/SR/etc. It's why I said "nannies that thwart forward progress" because I did not believe any electronic aid in 4LO on those trucks would cut engine power, it would just individual wheel brake (basically autoLSD function). Does it engine cut in 4LO too?

I didn't say that it was a cure all, but low revs and throttle control are night and day.

I do get it though, but there are times that it fits.

There is no throttle limitation that I found, but I have never needed to get into it deeply in low range.

I did the same for my sr5 turning that crap off, but the light still displays on the dash. I think the sport is similar as the sr5 having that so called poor man's posi. Still, once in 4wd the truck works well in snow, and mud. Its a lot better in 4wd than my old tundra ever was.

Just dont climb too steep of a hill or your truck will decide it wants to drink all of its own oil. Then youll have to swap an LS into it :D

If you are killing the engine in 4lo climbing a hill, it is either user error (most likely) or some major issue a tune is not going to fix. I crawl up 20+ degree rocky inclines with my 6mt all the time.

I will say that I wouldn’t mind a crawl box for some boulder gardens and the like. I probably will not take it that far though. I’ll just work on my driving skills or switch to an auto. While driving a manual of the road is only slightly harder than a auto, it takes some extra skills to drive a manual in high difficulty off road situations.
