I have always hated waste. I have been combining errands for years. I do drive where and when I want, but I am a retired boomer with somewhat of a fixed income. I have cut out the number of times that I eat out.

I wished our politicians and the voters understand basic economics. If you have a limited household budget, money is taken from the things you want to have and moved to the things that you need to have.

Hell I wish the average person on the street wouldn't be ignorant to that. People on disability and often fixed pensions tend to choose between medical necessities, housing, or food. You can have two of your desired combination, but rarely all three.

Preparing for our future? Was never taught in schools.
The day you start work, is the time you should starting investing your earnings. Please try to put away 10% of your take home money.
When you reach retirement, it should be in the millions.

My friends wife work for a tiny local bank, her bosses encouraged to invest. 30 years later and still working. She was able to grow her investment to 2.5 million.

All of us had that chance to invest for retirement? No matter what your age, put something away.
You will be glad you did. I started very late putting money in my IRA, I glad I did too.
    Aloha

“Smiling “ helps. Helps take away the bitterness? “When I look into my wallet, I tried to laugh”. Ended crying…..

Not lately, but I think I have on occasion filled up and never looked at the total. I wonder if I or anyone else would have even noticed that fuel costs are up. Had the topic not have been national news.

When I fueld up work trucks before, I always looked at the total out of curiosity. I wasn't paying turbo diesels, and V10s with small tanks.

Now when I fuel a work truck, I can only see the quantity pumped, not the price. No idea what they are paying.

I understand that you have the best of intentions, but people with no retirement savings tend to live hand to mouth. They don't save because they can't.

Not true, anyone can save…. Rule is when get your pay check “always pay yourself first”. - invest this, even if is only 5-10 dollars, it will get you into a habit, which will be leading into seeing success.

Write down where every penny is spent! In the end , you will find you could have save this money.

I agree some can't save on a wage their making, but i've seen many over my time that blew whatever they could of put away while spending it on frivolous stuff they can't afford, or spending it on cigarettes, and booze every week. Basically it comes down to living within your means even when it come's down to doing without. I'm a retired boomer on ss, but at least i knew enough when i was young how to save. Now with some medical issues, at least i can enjoy a comfortable retirement.

By the way I am retire also and my main income is my SS checks once a month. And I did invest in my company 401 , (regrets, not putting in more).

Anyone can save and start investing ! You must first “believe “ ! I do re-invest a part of my SS money, by buying stocks, even if I can buy only just 1 stock a month.
I like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Jollibees stocks.

    Wed May 25 , 2022. Amazon stocks will split 20-1 ,maybe starting at $107.00 ($2151.14 today -2%).

Speaking from personal experience, the first 10 or so years I worked there was no extra money. There is only so much you can cut, fortunately I had a good boss who bought doughnuts and coffee , so breakfast was covered during the week.

Can you imagine the people in other countries where the majority of people are starving, actually starving, could see Americans on Reddit or Instagram complaining about fuel prices, among other things. Or some of the other things people here demand they have to live their daily lives.

Not that Americans aren't free to complain about what ever they want.

Agreed...I did some "living" in my youth that required some money and I did not give up on the things I enjoy either. I'm a couple years away from retiring now and honestly don't expect to live much past 75-80 and I have savings for that. Would not trade the life experiences I had for any amount of money!:cheers:

My taco is my toy, so the gas prices really don't count as a factor when I use it. I look at the price of fuel when talking about the taco the same as the rest of the costs associated with my camping/off-roading hobby...it is what it is.

All that said, I am planning on doing a trip this summer to Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming but the price of fuel is becoming a factor. -Doing 6,000 miles in a truck that gets 15mpg becomes a bigger financial decision when gas goes from $4.09 to $7.00.

My wife works from home three days a week and has offered the use of her Altima more than once but as I tell her, if I wanted and Altima I would have bought an Altima. and I continue my 50 mile round trip commute five days a week.
