5100 2 inch for 2012 DC.

I am planning on running a 5100 Kit with add a leafs (I tow a camper, and don't like the idea of those blocks)

Planning on running DISCOVERER AT3 XLT - SIZE: LT285/75R16.
Will I need hubcentric spacers for the stock steel wheels?

I may do a little mild offroading, but nothing extreme. Just looking for it to ride nicer and look less boring. Tires:

Honestly, IMO as a person who had 5100s on all 4 corners, 5100s aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. I was lifted 1” in the front to level on stock springs. They rode like crap. They were jarring and stiff, mostly because of the preload on the stock springs. Now I have an Eibach stage 1 lift for 2.5” up front with OME EL111r springs in the rear. There’s no comparison. Controlled, smooth, and comfortable.

 

Agree with @ZMan2k2 i had the billy 5100 and they were pretty dang stiff.

not sure what your question is. Do you need hub-centric spacers? Yes. But the more negative offset you add to your wheels, the more it will rub.

Plan on at least doing a cmc as well.

 

The Billy’s are digressively valved. Which seem stiff to those that want to ride on pillows. I personally like digressively valved shocks, if you want more of a soft ride then go with a progressively valved shock.

 

I’d run the 5100s with the Toytec springs set at 0 setting.(they sell a completely preassembled set) You’ll net about 2.5 “ after they settle maybe 2 3/4” . You’ll need ucas to get a good alignment. You’ll need a spacer to run the factory wheel or the tires will rub the uca. And any trimming and cmc as needed.

 

I’m running billy 6112 now and they are better. But you are correct that they are digressive. I should of done my research for sure.

as far as this, I don’t mean to sound like a smart ass or anything, but you don’t need to rub a uca to get good alignment. A stock uca is fine for 2.5” lift.
I was lifted 3” before on stock uca and I got factory numbers at the alignment rack. Just wanted to throw that out there so people don’t waste their money. Uca aren’t cheap.

 

Correct you can achieve factory numbers wo a uca, usually I see it at the low end. But it can be done. I have ucas because I run 4* of caster. And imo with 285s the truck handles a shit tone better with 4* of caster vs 1.5-2.5.

 

As far as I know from research, Eibach and 5100s are both digressive. It’s just at low speed Eibach are softer because of the bypass valve early in the piston stroke.

 

I guess my question was… is this a good plan? Looks like I have some answers. TJ's were a little less complex to mod. Sort of anyway. What I learned from those days is that if you do half measures, you won't be happy with the truck's performance.

appreciate the info here. I would love new springs, but this is getting into a bigger spend than I had anticipated. I thought adding just the bilsteins would be an improved ride. And I’d still have new tires in the budget.

The Taco is 10 yo now. Front driver tire cups after a while. I do think the truck could use a suspension refresh and Alignment

 

“Improved ride” is subjective. I thought they were harsh. Others in this thread preferred the ride. There’s really only one way to know, pick someone’s subjective opinion and trust it, hoping your opinions align. Unfortunately, such is the nature of a public forum.

 

I would agree with what's been said as another who's had 5100s and moved on to something else. The ride will not improve over stock.

But they will look better if you want to be higher, and you may not mind the ride.

 

Thanks for your thoughts! and everyone else for chiming in. Those block things look cheesy to me, aal is the plan. I want to like the truck more, and I think it needs new shocks anyway. It's got 150k on it.
