Yeah with AR-10 their is no mil spec or standard dimensions so it will be very difficult to mix match lowers and uppers between different companies.

As some of us myself included even sticking with one company doesn't guarantee a reliable weapon from the start. Often will need tweaks and tuning with gas and buffer systems. While I enjoy piecing together ar platforms with the parts I want large format ar are almost better served buying complete rifle from the factory. But that comes at a price.

All in on my aero with getting stuff at sale price is way way less than buying a complete rifle even mid tier. And that's the rub

I wonder why there's no "standard" for AR10's. I'm an Aero fanboi, so I don't really have much experience with other brands. The only AR I own that isn't Aero is the 17 Designs folder.....but I did go with the matching 17 Designs billet upper.

I've heard about the mismatching of parts being an issue, although I've never had an issue with it personally after two separate AR10 builds. At most I had a tuning issue with my first build but that was taken care of pretty quickly. This was a lot more than expected. I swapped parts from my other builds to make sure it wasn't my lower that was the issue and it confirmed that the upper is to blame. Probably return it and go Aero for the upper.

As for why there are no standard specs for the AR-10: It just didn’t catch on in the market.

There IS a standard, but you cheap Chinese scope buying aero lovers aren’t going to like it. The armalite pattern is still used for the m110 and other knights SR-25 variants. We will call this “the industrial market.”

DPMS then came along and messed things up with affordable options, then when the gen 2 came about it further split the standard between high profile and low
Profile. Now there are 3 patterns, 2 with vague tolerance standards.

Then in the great Obama era boom of AR record sales, yeah, other companies like aero started using these rando patterns to make their design with small tweaks and vaguely listing the compatibility of their parts. Even if you call and get the exact compatibility, you might be have to do some filing and grinding to get stuff to work.

Upper on it's way back with the dreaded could not duplicate. They did replace the BCG. Well see what happens if it gives me anymore issues it becomes just a dedicated range toy and I'll eventually replace with a better reliable option.

Said bcg was stiff and that's after 400+ rounds and a ton of gun oil. Completely ignored the pics I sent of how the chamber was marking up the cartridges when feeding.

We'll see at the end of the day while it shouldn't be an issue with 175gr if that's the only round that induces failures I can stick to 168 or lower its BS but if 168 and lower don't induce failures moving forward that's the solution I run with.

I finally have (on order) all the parts to finish my project. I should have all the parts on Wednesday so I should be able to throw it all together next weekend. I can not wait to see how ridiculous this thing is with a 20 inch barrel and muzzle break on it. Got the Magpul PRS Lite stock yesterday so the lower will be fully completed this weekend. Fingers crossed that is.

    Have a great weekend everyone.

I would have loved to been present at Aero when they tested my upper.

Got it back today with new bcg. Immediate ftf and fte with new bcg so I had to disassemble the bcg to remove one of the double o rings and this time I also took out one of the double springs. Will try that

Lesson learned i guess still hard to financially justify an upper tier SR25 pattern 308 but maybe I should have looked at a daniel defense ddvm5 instead.

Well see how it runs on the range thankfully I didn't order a lot of 175gr and I get get it to run reliably on 168 and lower

Most likely will swap to a criterion barrel in future and order it with a new headspaced bolt. And go down to 16 inch as well but that's another topic

I hate to read this. I wish that Aero would have made it right for you as a customer.

    Same really

Once I put the bolt back together with extra o ring and extra spring removed it will cycle and extract fine.

Looking at the markings on the projos I believe someone said it previously but I believe the chamber is likely on the small side of tightness tolerance 175gr have pretty decent sized markings from feeding and those get smaller as you decrease in bullet weight.

Hopefully I'll get some range time this weekend and can run it. I expect I'll still have issues with 175gr but if everything else runs fine I guess I'll call that a win until I can order a criterion barrel/bolt

Out of curiosity, have you had a casing get pulled partially out of the ejection port and get caught by the bolt as it moves forward with a new round? I had that experience with an Aero nickel boron bcg which they also swapped out as a warranty return after giving me the “unable to reproduce”.

Early on that happened when dealing with the short stroke issues only once or twice. Once I properly aligned the gas block never happened again

I'm struggling with this now I'm going to try putting the 2nd ejector spring back in. Getting some major FTE battles now when cycling rounds with the firing pin removed just to test a few things with the chamber and marked cartridges.

I'm done with this thing was going to go pull the bcg to reinstall the 2nd ejector spring and the bcg is stuck in closed position nothing in the chamber
