Is that schmutz on your wheel or did they scratch the paint?

They look awesome and those 285’s are *chefs kiss* but I agree this situation is less than ideal
Yea…wish we could hit the redo button on this. I get that we got a smokin deal but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ gotta sit back and see what happens next

that's the lube they use to get the bead of the tire over the rim so that they don't scratch. looks like someone jizzed on my fancy new wheels. maybe *someone* did.

I got an appt for another alignment tmw to get them off the cab mount, and then ill take her through the carwash so she can sparkle

    @Johnny77

FWIW, I am not going to grind these wheels or force them over the hubs by torqueing them down. Also, a solution to use the factory center caps will be needed.

Please do not ship the wheels to me until all issues have been resolved. I do not want to incur duties and taxes to simply have to return ship the wheels.

    Thanks.

Figured it out! The rear wheels fit perfect. The wheel bore is correct. The wheels fit the hub. The wheel at the bore steps down to a smaller diameter to accommodate the trucks steel dust cover on the front end of 4WD’s. My 2018 4WD dust cover did not fit in the smaller wheel diameter. I removed the dust covers and ground them down to a smaller diameter and the wheels fit. I suppose you could use the lug nuts to “suck” the wheels deforming the dust cover likely lodging it in the wheel. I removed only about 1 mm diameter on the dust covers.

If the second wheel bore were a smidgen larger, I think the wheel would fit fine.

Hope to get time to go back to tire store tomorrow the get them installed. :bananadance:

I found the same issue (read your post after I posted above). I also ground the dust covers to make the wheels fit on the front. I did not grind the wheel.

    Your wheels look great!

Yeah, I realize this is a diy type group here, but I’m not going to be grinding on anything to fit wheels that should be a direct bolt on. I’ll give mine a shot when they get here, and see what we’re working with. Hate that this is a “roll the dice” type situation.

And apparently I need to put my other cars in my signature. You have a nice list there.

I hear you. I figured a little grinding was easier than any alternative. We shouldn’t have to modify our Tacoma’s to fit these wheels. On the other hand, I love everything else about these wheels.

Let’s see a list of your other cars! :D

    Hey guys,

Thank you for posting your experiences so far. I am truly upset man. This is our 4th Series of Tacoma Wheels and we have never had a problem before. The Wheels look sick and are well built, but this hub issue is a production level error that will obviously be corrected going forward. I know it's no excuse, and we are willing to compensate or cancel orders if that's what you guys want to do. You guys with 4x4 Models are the ones who are going to have an issue because of the Dust Cap. If you do not want to mess with the caps or tightening the wheels down in a star pattern, and you shouldn't, then we can return/cancel if you want. We are working now to fix these issues before sending any more wheels out to customers with 4x4 Fitments.

For those that don't mind grinding down the Dust Caps a little bit, we can compensate you guys with additional discounts for the trouble if you would like to keep the wheels. For people with 2015 or older Models, or any 2WD Models, you should have no issues.

As for the Caps, we have a few different types of OEM Caps being delivered today so we can test and figure out those issues as well. I will update with whatever we find out. Either way, for those of you who were banking on OEM Caps fitting. We will do what we can to compensate you as well, if this was also an error on our part.

This is unacceptable, and I really wish we hadn't already sent these wheels out to you guys with these issues. We had such a good track record with Tacoma/4Runner Wheels, and we just never expected this. I’m here to facilitate, and work with you guys to remedy the situation.

    -Dustin

    Dustin,

This is a pretty shitty situation, but that is the best possible way for a company to handle this issue. I don't think FSW's reputation on TW is at risk or anything because of this. If anything, it reinforces my willingness to patron such a business who is willing to put customers over profits.

Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I know one way or another I can stand behind a company that takes accountability.

Well put, this is my 2nd set of wheels from Dustin in 6 months and some things are out of their hands, it's how you handle those things that makes the difference!

I'm still interested in ordering a set of 17". If I order will I get updated hub bores? I don't mind waiting for the issue to be fixed.

Anyone have a picture of exactly where you’re grinding to get these to fit? Feel like leaving this up to a tire store’s discretion could be a disaster.

It’s odd cause I was just at discount and explained the situation and to notify me if there were issues encountered concerning the fit, they said they ran into no issues ….wonder if it’s just a few that got through QA

I was under the impression folks were grinding the dust caps and not the wheels. Sorry for being slow here. My wheels are being delivered today, and just trying to decide if it’s worth fooling with or sending back.

I tried just the dust cap and that wasn't enough so had to do the wheel, to be honest the grinding isn't that big of a deal and you don't see it but since I had to do it at the tire shop it cost me alot more money and time. If you can do it home before you go that's what I would have done if I knew what I know now.
I would have them or you when you get home jack up one of the fronts and see if they come off.
