much of what U say is true...................
bears much consideration out of observation

most drivers want Tim ToolTime POWER !!

    another facet is gearing

most hi way geraing decades ago during the gas lines / oil crisis
    were in the 3's

most of the conversion vans were 3:23 from the factory 15-16 mpg
    the maxi vans were 3:56

many a performance car was 3:56.........switched out to 3:73 12-14mpg
if U really wants a stump puller 4:11's ....... nobody cared

    the overdrive in my dodge dropped to 2:73 & i got 20mpg's with a 318 V8

guys on this forum are regearing into the ' John Deere Tractor ' 5's

all the above was b4 the EPA had teeth & nuts

now there are 300HP eco inline 4's
    500-650 HP V8 pickups

    650HP cadilacs

cars with street HP that some sanctions race on

    got to pay the piper

I gotta call poop on this one. Factor your mpg using an actual flow meter. I am consistently 24 mpg and over 26 if I run non ethanol. Those are based on the actual flow of fuel to the engine. The fact that you have the audacity to expose us to an image of a ridgeline is nothing shy of offensive ;)

Has anyone done back of the envelope math on EV conversion Tacoma "effective MPG"? Assuming, just for pure argument's sake, that we could set aside the EV conversion cost itself (call it $40k?). If you had a 3rd gen Tacoma with a battery pack under the bed (where fuel tank sits but evenly distributed and kept nice and low) then an electric motor under the hood, mated to MT, what kind of numbers would we be looking at? I assume we would use 36 kwh per gallon of gas to do the comparison between the two?

The 90% efficiency and excellent low end torque of an electric motor, along with lowered maintenance costs and greener footprint (once built, ignoring batteries at least) has appeal on many levels. For those not intending to use a truck for extended trips beyond the range of a single charge, might we be able to realize an effective 50mpg via EV conversion? That's one question I'd need some math on before I start executing on my pipe dream of 3rd gen EV.

A lot of good posts here. I can hit just over 26 MPG IF I keep it between 90-100km's/h (which is the speed limit, so I'm not a rolling roadblock) and I have my lighter weight P rated 245 tires on alloy rims installed. This is over very mountainous terrain, but mostly hwy.
Rotational mass is a big deal. I'd rather ride a 30lb bike with a 5 lb wheelset than a 26lb bike with a 10lb wheelset.
Synthetic lubricants and as few add on farkles will add to MPG.
Over the summer, I get about 22 MPG average on a mixed driving cycle.
I'm not going to complain about high fuel prices, but I like my vehicles to be as efficient as possible, which usually coincides with a well maintained vehicle.

I can still get advertised fuel economy with 2” lift, 255/80/17 E rated wildpeaks, RTT and steel bedrack. No complaints at all here. Like the above poster said, best not go over 100km or so on highway (60 MPH) In the city I drive pretty “smart” as well. No jackrabbit starts and I coast to red lights whenever I can, without pissing people off behind me of course.

Ordered an aluminum stump bumper, winch and getting steel sliders in couple weeks, so we will see how it will affect MPGs.

I get 16 mpg average and I don’t drive like a db. I get right around 20 in the ‘05. the I4 isn’t spec’d way better but in my real world driving it seems preferable for city schlepping. Which makes a fair bit of intuitive sense.

More like how much can everyone afford. I get 5 GPF (Gallons Per Fillup) :D. If I'm cautious, I sometimes can get 10 GPF.:p:rofl:

    Ha!

Probably some drunk punks having fun. That area is the beginning of the trailhead. On the way to my camp spot, there were 3 more vandalized vehicles, burned and covered in bullet holes.

My buddy had one many years ago, always thought the exhaust had an extremely weird sound to it.

I think I know that tinny/raspy v6 sound you are talking about it. I heard it on a quite few GM cars.

    I had a v6 Camaro, yes I know…:anonymous:
The exhaust had a very interesting sound as well, no cats. Shockingly, some folks in high school thought it was a v8.

Exactly, I always described it as a raspberry sound. Your Camaro probably sounded pretty decent without the cats muffling the sound!!!

It sure backfired quite loud when I was flooring it and shifting around 4.5k rpms. Ive seen people in my rear view mirror cover their face or duck because it sounded like a shot haha. Man good ol times.
