There may need to be parallel fuse boxes. One to keep existing systems running on the tacoma, the other to power this engine.

I know getting the factory gauges to work has been one of the bigger hurdles doing swaps into Tacomas.

Kind of thinking if I were trying this, I would try to use as much of the donor in that regard. Driveline, ECU, cluster, BCM etc.

I think it will be easier to get the Tacoma Gauge to work than make the GX cluster to look aesthetically pleasing in the Tacoma dash. As much as I would like the GX cluster I don't think that is a hill I am willing to die on.

That would be correct. At least that’s what the forums said when I last checked 6mo ago. I meant to say HP’s opened the door for tuning Toyota/Lexus. I’d be surprised they don’t add the GX in the future given how popular it’s been with the overlanding community and how pig rich the OV guys claim the stock tune is.

Wonder how hard it would be to swap the whole dash in? They are similar size. Tacoma with the bougie Lexus dash, seats, console etc.

Unless you also want to use the electric brake booster I see no need for two under hood fuse boxes. There will be lots of repinning wire connections though. Lots. Engine immobilizer may be a challenge. Taco doesn’t have it but the GX does. Hope you got the keys with the donor truck. Hold on to those!

edit: I think the Taco actually does have an immobilizer

Whenever you play a car on copart or iaai you are guaranteed that the keys will be stolen. Copart claimed that it had keys and ran, picked it up and the keys are missing. I ordered a oem key today, I will have a lock smith come out to program the key. I will make sure it runs prior to tearing into it. Good advice thanks.

Additionally yes, I do want the electronic brake booster and traction control. I think the gx fuse box will have all systems that the tacoma currently has (and then some). Likely I will have to match tacoma wires to gx fuses/relays with the corresponding circuits.

Does anyone know if the GX rear diff, that is 8.2 inch, will bolt into a tacoma axle housing? Along with the axle shafts.

Unsure but why not use the GX axle? Weld on leaf perches and so what needs to be done. weld on a 12” relocation for some extra fun. Since you want to keep the rear disc setup of the GX
