It is, but it is not in inflation adjusted dollars. That 150 bil in 1999 margin debt would be equivalent to 260 bil today.

There's also 50 million more people in the population than in 2000, meaning margin debt per capita is actually lower.

US GDP was also 10 trillion in 2000 and is a touch over 20 trillion now, so there may be twice as much nominal margin debt but there's also twice as much nominal income to back it. If your income doubles and your debt load also doubles, you're pretty much in the same place.
