I traded my 17 taco with 42k or so on the clock, I lost less than a grand a year for using it. So in your case 1-under a grand difference, 2- it was their mistake, therefore now under 500. I’m sure there is a slight difference in MSRP, but again their issue not yours. So unless there are more features on the new one, and you ok with them, this transaction should cost you under 500 bucks.

But what I think, and your happy with are 2 different things. Glad your happy.

Wow, sorry that you were pulled into this snipe hunt, Rannyhill!
But hope the dealership is able to make good on the experience.

Thank you. Definitely something I didn’t see coming but I remind myself there are many people dealing with much more serious issues everyday.

Why keep the terms confidential? You posted your issue and solicited advice from this forum. You got 62 pages of advice, and now that you have resolution, you're not going to be transparent about what it was?

    On the contrary, strong.

Advice received aside, this is a business transaction between Ranny and the dealer -- who it sounds has been operating in good faith. (albeit slowly)

Ranny is respecting the dealers privacy in the transaction.

True, though this in a perfect world shouldn't have happened but you've at least been put in a similar situation with the loaner short term and from the sounds of it long term with the incoming vessel.

    His decision completely.

I would probably ask for competent oil changes, but thats just me.

Did they ever offer a warranty with accepting your truck back as part of the negotiation?

Looks like this is the best outcome for everyone except the next unsuspecting owner. Dealer pled “not guilty” here so doesn’t have to admit anything to the next buyer and sells Ranny’s truck at a small net profit.

An engine tear down was probably the worst possible choice for them. Expose a problem, and you either have to fix it or cover it up. Dealer still maintains plausible deniability at this point when they sell it off to the next buyer.

Ranny puts an acceptable amount of skin in the game and gets a next year model equivalent to his own.

Ranny feels bad for the next owner, but ultimately that isn’t his fault or concern.

Odds are, this truck makes it to 100k without issue. Perhaps not 200 or 300 though.

Glad it worked out for you @Rannyhill and your patience and approach seems to be returning dividends.

Id say the dealer's plea was more along the lines of nolo contendere, or reaching a settlement before discovery can begin at trial.

Yep, agreed. Interestingly, a plea of nolo contendo with regards to traffic tickets is effectively a guilty plea. You accept the charge, just don’t agree with it. Sort of like that plea in court where you don’t have to admit guilt. I forget the case that set precedent.
