30 bucks in Amazon lights

 

For yall in the hot parts of the country I.E. four corners area how do gas cans fare under those toppers, just wondering going up to Salt lake first and second week of June. Thinking about rigging up a hard cover for my bed to help with drag, but am concerned about carrying extra gas underneath.

 

I have 2-3 jerry cans in the back of my truck all the time. Black steel topper gets super hot but that's not an issue.

The only problem I've had is when I go up in elevation they can blow off extra pressure and fuel. It's a pain to keep them from flying around on the trail. Strap them in good.

 

Last summer I drove from San Diego to Utah and it was 117 degrees going through Las Vegas. My 1 gallon plastic gas can was totally bloated when I made my next gas stop. It was fine once I relieved the pressure.

 

Thanks, it's going to be about a 24hr drive one way looking forward to it. Haven't been up that way since I was a kid, let alone driving, looking forward to it.

Don’t over fill the cans. Open the caps to briefly release pressure in the can if you become concerned with bloating. I keep gas in my topper year round. Also be sure to use/rotate the gas out so it doesn’t sit too long.

 

How are people attaching LED strip lights to the roof of their shells? Specifically, to the carpet?

 

I used the bolts from the rack rails. Bought longer bolts, some silicone and aluminum flat stock.

I really like them. I got some ebay bed lights and spliced all of these into that harness. So now it works with the switch for the cargo light and I didn't have to cut into the factory harness. Works great. I have 8 of these lights and a distribution block for them.

I have some aluminum plates attached with the rack rail bolts. On these plates, I have footman loops mounted, and straps running across the underside of the roof - to carry long things along the ceiling. I should be able to attach the lights to those.

Loving the new topper! Took her out for a 4 day camp near cottonwood CO. Lots of hiking and made some amazing meals to top it off. Haven't done much for interior yet. Going to be building a raised deck system and I'm thinking about making 4 pull out drawers underneath. 2 for camping, 2 for my job so they can be easily pulled in / out to replace as needed.
