I also have them and never expected them to be paid off. I do however enjoy them kicking down the can about the interest. Since they started doing that I've put more into paying it down because fuck student loans

    It's being converted to energy...literally.
Expensive fuel/electricity is where that money is going. This benefits no individuals as it's not profit. It's costs.

Agreed most people heard "forgive student loans" and jumped all in. Not to mention I know a ton of people that are like "cool no interest/payments are due on my loans I've got more money freed up" Not realizing they could easily pay it down dramatically since the interest tends to keep people from getting rid of said debt

i did the same thing, as soon as they started that 0% interest i started 2.5x paying (i was already paying 2x). paid the remaining off with the quickness. wife did the same for a while, but i had her stop paying on it and told her to focus on her car note instead.

Yeah, that didn't happen. I see this everywhere and I think it comes from people not knowing what they're talking about. The Fed changed how they calculate M1 and M2 in May 2020:

    https://gonzoecon.com/2021/04/m1-and-m2-have-changed/

The new M2 methodology renders a figure 80% higher than the old methodology, but in terms of money supply change since the start of COVID, it's been 20%ish.

I'll just stop paying my mortgage to pick up that 9%. Lots of in equity in my house, I'll just scrape some dollar bills off the wall. Btw, only 37% of Americans under 35 own a home.

credit liquidity = debt. Even worse if you're short 9% to pay back visa.

I suppose I could sell my car, as that's an asset, but then how am I going to get to where I need to go to like, survive.

    Nationwide rent average: $1,326
    Nationwide median income: $31k

So I'd say, no, most people can't just absorb 9% without making changes in their life. And furthermore, if we measured inflation like we used to, instead of changing it every time it gets bad to make it look better, we're looking at realistically 15% or more

No it didn't. You have now missed dividend distributions and have to time your re-entry.

Company has us booking travel 6 weeks out because flights/hotels/car rentals are so expensive. In the before times I'd book flights on Thurs or Fri for the following week, no problem.

What, exactly, do you think it means "to absorb"? Of course they're going to have to make changes. That's the point. They can make changes.

Good thing there's usually two incomes per rent, huh?

The way you phrased it originally you seemed to imply that people could just conjure up another 9% out of their disposable income without having to decide where to cut back.

They did, it just wasn't an 80% change to the money supply. 1/4 of that, at most.

49% of the US is married. So again, not most ;)

And also, what a neat world we live in where people are forced to cohabitate in order to survive. American dream right there.

Well, if they can they can - but even that is cutting back on discretionary purchases.

There's a myriad of ways to approach this. Some people carpool, some eat less meat, some go from $300 bottles of scotch to $250 bottles of scotch. Make your choices.
