Last Thursday I rented a splitter to get a start on the wood pile.

I didn't realize that I wasn't recovered enough to tackle a job like this. It took 7 hrs to process 16 of the 'rounds'. In addition to the visible pile, I also got about 1/2 of a chord of red oak tucked inside of the woodshed. It was at that moment that I realized 4 things. (1)- I under-estimated how much wood I actually have on hand (2)- I under-estimated how much time it is going to take to get this all processed (3)- I don't have enough storage space for all of it. The wood was all free, I just had to schlep it out of the guys yard and into the trailer, so it's good to have all of it.
(4)- at $85/day for the splitter rental, I needed to find another way of getting this done. A buddy offered to lend me his, I didn't want to make the 3 hr round trip to get it, thinking that a 1 day rental would be easier. It took his 4wd 4wheeler to push it into my trailer. Once I got home I had to scratch me arse and come up with an way to unload it and to move it around. The $20 estate sale hooptie lawn tractor became an option. A $10 'lawn tractor' trailer ball and I was in business!

Those wood splitters are nice to have, especially when you have a good bit of wood. Though I'd recommend moving the splitter closer to where you want to stack the wood long-term so you don't have to move that big pile all over again for the third time.

    :hattip:Good morning everybody. :rain:

Weather got right sporty about 05:00, a bright flash of lightening and heavy boom of thunder that woke me up right before the weather alerts started going off for a tornado and severe thunderstorms warning. Been awake since then.

With all the nasty weather it looks like it will be a good day for trip planning. I’ve made up my mind, Alaska Retirement Road-trip is happening this year!

I thought it might. Lol. I’m looking at the classic “Big Dirty 4” road trip with a scenic loop around the Kenai peninsula. I’ve been making plans for a while. Covid screwed them up and now the economy and world events are trying to sabotage them but if I try to wait till things “get back to normal” I may never get to do it. Expect PMs soon.
