2nd Gen DIY Big Brake KIt -OEM parts- Part #'s provided (INSTALLED)

Interesting... I visited the link and there it is... but says "not available for pickup in my region". So, shipping only, but for free. I also checked Advance and Autozone and the reviews for their remans are crappy... bad threads, won't bleed, seized in a year, finishes vary etc. I would almost be tempted to go with Toyota OEM but then the cost more than doubles.

 

Rock Auto has a Powerstop kit... but red calipers. They also have a "stock replacement" Powerstop kit for less, but uncoated calipers. I am not a fan of the red, but maybe could live with it.

I ordered the eclipse calipers from them but received ADO.

 

Drilled / slotted rotors are overhyped. Had them on my 2gen and replaced them with this 470 OEM kit. I noticed a definite improvement. This 3rd gen has the drilled/ slotted junk on them now. Looking forward to an actual stopping upgrade when I do this upgrade on this truck.

 

Getting closer on this. I have gone onto the official Toyota OEM parts gateway and put everything in the cart except for the calipers. My local dealer gives decent discounts via this gateway and I can just stop in and pick the stuff up. But even with discounts the OEM calipers are too $$$, so I will keep looking at options... and waiting to hear feedback from you recent ADO buyers. Rock Auto also has many caliper options, though last I dealt with them shiping was getting expensive. So not going to order the rotors there since the OEMs were a good deal and I can just pick 'em up here.

One question for the OP if he is still here. I am seeing MSRP for the 04945-35120 shim kit to be ~$24, $19 with discount. Not anything like the $41 he posted??

After getting my money back from Napa, I now have a pair of red powder coated Power Stop calipers. They look much better, and cost about the same. I was waiting for warmer weather, so I could swap these brakes and my coilovers; maybe sometime next month...

Keep eyeing these brakes. Really regret not installing this the first time I did breaks on the Tacoma.

not looking for better brake performance, but I am looking for longer life out of my rotors. Had my Tacoma for 40k miles and had to resurface my rotors 3 times already.

 

Sorry if this has been discussed but im gathering input on if the braided brake lines are necessary, thoughts?

 

No, they are not. The braided lines are just to give you a more firm feel when braking. You can get away with the rubber ones just fine.

 

Does the newer gx460 calipers fit our trucks?

What did you end up going with on these?

 

FYI for anyone who has done this upgrade and hears a rattle from the front end....... I went with the NAPA calipers for the brake swap....After putting what I am guessing to be 10-15k miles on the truck, I noticed a very loose sounding rattle coming from the from end, most noticeable on rough roads..... I found that it was the fitment of the brake pads to the calipers. I was able to fix this by adding a second set of brake pad spring clips.. they are those twisty wire doo dads that push the pads away from the brake rotors when the brakes are not being applied. Usually the springs are only on the lower (leading) portion of the rotor/brake pad, I added them to the top (trailing) as well and it eliminated the rattle immediately.....

I've been thinking about doing that myself. I intermittently get a *CLUNK* from the pads shifting when I'm reversing, and thought adding a second set of springs may solve it.

 

Any updates from anyone who has installed the ADO version of the calipers? Ready to pull the trigger on this projected am just hung op on the calipers, ADO/ PowerStop.
