Has anyone figured out how to make the truck stop limiting at 82mph.

I just did my vf tune yesterday.

I did the tune for regular gas, throats enhance, 33 in tires, and 5.29 gears

    Thank you

    A long time ago. :D

The 5.29 tune will put your speed limiter back to about 108mph. That is the entire purpose of the 5.29 tune.

The Taco has more to give than that though. If you want more, edit the map to something unobtainable, like 312kph.

Weird. I just did the 5.29 tune yesterday and I max out at like 82. I wouldn’t mind the 108. I live in 80 mile an hr traffic.
Do you think I did something wrong?

i don’t really feel comfortable editing tunes just yet

    thanks

I am not sure. You could try flashing it again. If it doesn't work, you're down to the Max Speed edit.

Just drive at 81 or below. Easy peasy.

So I am experiencing this too. Nitro 5.29 on my ‘17 TRD Off Road Double Cab; no lifts, arms, etc. Running 32” BFG AT/KO2 (31.6”).

Got the gearset for towing a 16’ enclosed (2000 empty) for the SxS.

Now when I’m not towing and need to pass semis snd RVs who are speed or hill limited, and having that 82 MPH governor kick in can be dangerous with oncoming traffic.

Waiting on the VFTuner to show up, but I’ve a question:

Since stock the truck has a factory 113 MPH limit, with 5.29 gear set and bigger tires, the driveshaft is actually turning quite a bit faster.

What is the RPM limit to the stock driveshaft? Is it dangerous to remove the governor?

What are the negatives of doing this?

Just want to be able to do 90 if needed for passing. No future mods or bigger tires planned.

Just get 35’s and fool the engine.

Even with 35s it will govern it, I want to say it was 83 for me. 5.29 and 35s.

KDMax Tune took care of that for me. Also the tune will hold the gears longer, less shifting. Some people will argue the tune is not necessary after a gear change. Necessary is subjective. I believe it is and will make for a better driving experience.

You really notice the gear change when you take off from your first red light. It feels easier for the truck almost like the truck is lighter. That is the same feeling you will get when you first drive after the tune. It's that noticeable. After the money spent on a re gear and hopefully lockers, since you had the diffs open. It makes sense to put up another $200 or so for the tune. It's a small percentage of cost for the benefit of a better driving truck.

Gears, lockers, tune are the best overall mods that you can do for the truck. Those 3 mods combined will upgrade all of your driving experiences on and off road. It's like you have an entire new vehicle.

Good point. On my Mustang drift car, it’s been regeared from 2.73 to 3.73 and I have the speed limiter set to 110 so the driveshaft doesn’t explode.

OP, just making sure I'm reading you right, you have a TrueTrac? I didn't think True Tracs came for a Tacoma?
(I have a Jeep TJ with front and rear TrueTracs... love them!)

I have a Truetrac in my Tacoma. Installed earlier this year. Mine is a second gen ... But I've seen third gens get them for the rear

That's cool. I'm a big fan of TTs. I'm not discounting the benefits of a locker, however I suspect more people would get use/benefits from TTs.

    pretty much everything
When I got the KDMax tune done it was an option to have the speed limiter raised if you had your truck regeared and recommended if you had 5.29's installed or were going to.

Op hasn’t been here since Jan ‘21.
This was answered like 20 times in this thread though. Tune it with your gear ratio or edit the max speed
