Yesterday I installed the AFE Momentum GT cai with the scoop. Everything went together smoothly, but this morning the check engine and the traction control light turned on. I took it to autozone to get it scanned and they told me it is getting too much air. I disconnected the battery earlier and it went away but after about 40 minutes of driving they’re back on. Is there anything I can do to stop the light from turning on? and am I able to still drive with that light on or is it harming anything? Thanks

Too much air sounds odd, make sure your vac lines are on and the maf sensor is seated well.

Go somewhere else and get the code #. Then come back and let us know what they are.

Also - Don’t go to Autozone

Not to :deadhorse: but the problem is most likely due to an improperly seated vacuum line, possibly left disconnected or the maf sensor isn’t seated properly.
aFe systems are typically problem free with proper installation.

*did your kit come with a replacement gasket for the MAF? Maybe you forgot to install it?

It’s saying a P0101 code “mass or volume air flow A cricut range/performance”

First thing to do is make sure the MAF is plugged in good.

That code has nothing to do with “too much air”.
It has to do with too much or too little voltage being reported to the ECU by MAF Sensor.

About the only thing you can do to check it is, check power to the MAF sensor.
Or if you want to believe the flow chart, it says “Replace MAF”. IF and only IF that is the ONLY code.

FWIW, I don’t always trust flow charts.

If you had a scan tool of your own, you can check voltage right there on the scan tool.

Free advice from parts store employees with no training in diagnostics will often result in more confusion, not less

Is the maf sensor pointed backwards?
    Are the connector pins OK?

Even with everything installed correctly, the fault may end up being the aftermarket intake system itself. Any changes in the way the air flows across the sensor can confuse the pcm.

Considering your vehicle already came stock with a CAI you might just remove the kit altogether

The MAF sensor is definitely pointed the right way it only goes into the port one way. I’m going to check the pins to see if they’re all good. But from what I saw when I installed it, it looked good.

Double check all your work for sure but it could very well be that the diameter and flow characteristics of the aftermarket air intake and MAF housing are too much different from stock and are skewing the MAF readings.
I have seen this multiple times, some would not even run or would barely run others just threw a code.

The MAF sensor on all vehicles is calibrated for the diameter of the housing it's mounted in and flow characteristics of the intake system as designed at the factory, any significant modification can result in the sensor not reading properly.

It can be corrected with tuning but unless other components have been added/modified that require the intake system to flow more air it's best to stick with the stock intake setup or something that is close enough as to not change the MAF calibration.

Check pin #1 Blue/White for power
And #5 Brown wire for ground
Key ON - Engine doesn’t have to be running.

If that’s good. You have 2 option.
(Or 3 but I serious doubt it is the 3rd option)

    1. Put the stock air box and filter back on the truck. See what happens
    2. Replace the MAF
    3. Check the wiring to the ECM ( not likely the problem)

What about vacuum line/s and your maf gasket (should be a foam-like ring the maf sits on). Did your AFE kit come with one?

No there was no maf gadget with the kit. It had me in old it off the stock and put it right onto the aftermarket one
it also had me replace the smaller vacuum line in the back on the intake

The MAF uses an O-ring I believe.

Double check your vacuum lines to make sure they’re seated flush and firm.
This is also a good time to clean your MAF, if you haven’t done so in awhile you probably should. Make sure to clean the inside grooves as well, watch a YouTube video if you don’t know what I mean. Your MAF might be dirty and the combination of the new system is throwing it off. Use this

I have my own tool. What am I looking for to find the voltage?
