Remember the wee locks that could be put on the rotary phones?

I've one on my grandma's phone:

The locks were useless. If you could keep good time, all you had to do to dial a number was to click the hook switch in a steady pattern for each digit you wanted to dial.
If you wanted to dial 867-5309, you would:

Click the hook switch 8 times in a steady pattern, once click every quarter second. Then pause for a second.
Click the hook switch 6 times, same way as before. Pause.

    Well, you get the idea.

Remember when you first used an ATM? For me it was around 1972. My bank had what may have been the first ATM installed in the New Orleans area. It was a fairly sophisticated device for the time, with a one-line digital readout display. A couple years later I used an ATM at a different local bank that was not nearly as slick. Behind a glass-covered slot it had what appeared to be a paper covered metal cylinder (think tin can) with one-line messages printed on it. The cylinder would rotate behind the glass to display the relevant message to the user...
I tried unsuccessfully to find a picture of this second type of goofy ATM online.

So it was essentially a tele-type terminal ATM? No CRT? I used to use those (teletype) for programming / connecting to a mainframe off-site. Those teletype terminals had "BELL" on the "G" key...

Right, no CRT. It was either LED or some type of nixie tube display, but I think LED.

She made it 360° around the cul-de-sac one time and give it back to me.

The knobbies are a killer and I had to get rid of them pronto.

I remember listening to it on the radio... when it was new. It's on my flash drive in my truck now. I can listen to it whenever I want.
