Feel bad for anyone who thought they saw a pattern in $GME and sold the $100 covered call for friday for $500 when it was trading at $98 days ago...

 

Maybe they are the ones shorting themselves and retail idiots following ham won’t let them succeed in failing. They keep trying harder

 

I don't think the inflation is going to be contained anytime soon, some smaller countries have already defaulted on the interest of their debt, then the world hunger crisis, unknown risks with Russia, the political wars, droughts, and from car manufacturers to our food supply, using this 'Just in time supply system' or 'made to order' is a freaking joke, and list continues.. then the Feds waited to late to start raising rates, we went from really low rates sub 3% from last November and this coming November 2022 they will be more than doubled.

We're suffering from droughts here in South Texas, I had my neighbor/cattle leasee pull his herd off my place. USDA is now paying producers some money in attempt to keep thier herds or sustain the numbers and not take them to market, the cost per animal unit they are paying is still not enough. With more animals going to market, the meat price will not change in the grocery stores.

Not all is bad, it's a beautiful day here in South Texas.

Little bit of volume today. 90 swap cycle is next week, so gamestonk generally starts its push the previous. But next week is also earnings, shareholder meeting, and potentially the splividend announcement.

Basically, but I will have to show a farm profit in a couple years, I have some nice equipment on order for some planned price depreciations to nearly offset, and I'm gonna apply for another USDA grant before I'm finished with the current one.

I will be getting more beef soon, about 1/3 of cow in next couple weeks, and the freezer is happy with deer, hogs, beef, plus I always got tons of hogs and other wildlife for future meals.

 

A lot to unpack there, but to try and simplify a bit:

The current inflation is supply chain shock driven. Not much the Fed can do about that other than destroy demand, which is what rate increases do. We'll see if it works. My gut guess is that the Fed hopes inflation self resolves before they get much above a 3-4% FFR, because at that point rolling over Federal Debt becomes problematic.

Demand destruction worked beautifully in housing, the main problem being that until supply catches up (which it can't right now due to material and labor issues), prices aren't going to move much. With how much the trades have been discouraged over the past 30+ years in favor of 4 year college, this could be a generation-long or more supply shortage in housing. Even if you can get the timber and nails, someone has to put them together in the right configuration.

It's important to recognize that more than 50% of inflation in the last 3 prints has been driven by two categories: Automobiles and Energy. If you're not trying to buy a car right now and don't drive much, CPI for you is more like ~4%, which is a LOT more bearable. I think that's part of the reason you hear a lot of grumbling but no one stopped spending:

People don't like switching from their favorite brand of chips to store brand, but in terms of lifestyle hardship thats way way way at the bottom of the scale.

 

Works for me. I have a limit order on VTI around 189 which would equate about SPX 3800. If we get there, we get there. If not, meh. I made a fat buy at 191.50 so I'll be contented if that 20% drop was the bottom.

Strengthening dollar. Paying more for imports than we sell exports for cut over 3% off Q1 GDP. That's fucking huge.

Domestically, things actually look good by the numbers. Consumer spending and employment are high. Sentiment is in the dumper, but I think that's just because the media sells fear and nothing else these days.
