Those Datsun 510s are sweet. I picked up the Bobby Allison car. These are the most accurate versions I have seen. The others I've seen have the doors sized wrong on the 2dr sedans from other manufacturers.

This one was a gift for my birthday many years ago. I still have not made it out to any of the historics to see the cars race in person but I did see it parked once at a D1 event back in like 2005 or so.

Ok... I feel like I want to try my hand at customizing a truck.

I do have a few qufor those of you that do this kind of thing.

After drilling out the bottom rivets, how do you resecure it?

What is the correct wire size for the axels?

What is the best way to strip the current paint?

Any recommendations for repaint? Type, brand etc.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

After drilling out the bottom rivets, how do you resecure it? - Some re-tap the posts on the metal body, some leave it unsecured, and few will glue/epoxy

What is the correct wire size for the axels? Standard hot wheels diameter is .8 but you can purchase these from many places online

What is the best way to strip the current paint? Air craft remover/paint strippers so you preserve body lines dont just sand it off

Any recommendations for repaint? Type, brand etc. primer and and thin coats of enamel in the color of your choice

You can buy the kits that come with the drill bit, tap, and screw. As for the axle the neat trick that my buddy did was to buy small tubing at a hobby shop. JB weld it to the base and then take any original axle and cut it in the center. Put your choice of wheel and a dab of JB weld on the end and slide it into the tube. This allows you to have the wheel tucked in or stick out a bit. I posted some pictures of this many pages back. I can repost them if that would help to understand what I mean.

I’ll post some anyway. I don’t know how many pages back it is. I know where some of the cars are. Be back in a minute.

You can see tube for the rear axle on this one. He kept it long to stick some big tires on it.

Same idea for the front and rear axles on this one. Love this car. Cut the hood for the motor and the body for the headers.

This one he put tube on the bottom side to raise the front end for the gasser look. Was going to paint it black but left it to look more like a solid axle.

And this one he cut the tube short to tuck the front wheels in a little.

And just to take a picture because it was with the others. This one has the front of a race car back of a bug rod wheels from a funny car, motor from another with an air cleaner from something else. Interior seat and dash from a matchbox. The two base’s jb welded together and custom made side pieces from a larger tubing.
