All prerunners should consider a spindle lift first before wasting money on an RCD kit

I called around about getting a spindle lift as well, and after parts and installation it ends up being very close to the same price....

Those Camburg spindles are expensive! Then you add in AAL/blocks, shocks and installation and you're over $2000....

the RCD kit is 100% worthless on a prerunner...

btw, you do not need new shocks with new spindles... if you do you can use stock springs and bilstein 5100 set at any level (for additional height)

Do you even know how a drop bracket works?

The RCD kit drop the front diff on a 4x4 by using a set of new cross members installed after you cut the front cross member... and utilize larger spindles... without a 4x4 you just have an additional bracket bolted to you truck for no reason what-so-ever also degrading your clearance hub-to-hub.

spindles are like $1000 and bilsteins 5100 shocks are like $300 (for 4) and an AAL leaf set is like $100

thats $1400 and you don't have worthless pieces attached to you truck doing absolutely nothing.

I guess you might be able to get away with using just the spindles from the RCD kit... I'm not 100% sure on that though

I have a good idea how the various lifts work. If i go with the spindle option I would definitely get new shocks. I do not want to have to mess with it for a long time, if ever.

Everywhere i am calling is giving me higher quotes for the spindle lift over the RCD. One place actually quoted me $2900 for the spindle lift, and the lowest quote i got for the spindle option was $2700. No way i am paying that much for any lift!!

that price is just stupid...the RCD kit is more complicated install...

just buy the parts seperate...then shop for labor or do it yourself (isn't that complicated)

Camburg spindles, 4 Bilstein 5100s, and something for the rear

    it will ride smooth...

heres a list of various spindle lifted tacomas

I agree that price is stupid, which is why i ruled out the option.
Everywhere wants to charge minimum $700 to install something like that (most places more, and i don't have the knowledge or tools to do it myself)
So, if i find Spindles, shocks and rear AAL plus i would assume i would also need a small block so the rear did not sit lower than the front for $1400, then the install was $700, i am at $2100. And i have not accounted for shipping and/or tax for the parts, or alignment.

    Or

I go with the RCD which I have got quotes from 2 local shops (after some negotiation) for parts, install and alignment for $2400 out the door.
Also, have the piece of mind that i have not heard anything bad about this lift, as far as quality or ride quality and know that it will sit level when complete.

    What would you do?

Honestly I'd just do the spindle lift in order to have the future customization... and I think the shops are still raping you. I had quotes for $600 for my RCD kit, instead I did it at a mod day. If you get a spindle set up... I'm sure someone on TW at the SOCAL mod day (isn't there one coming up?) would have the experience to do it at a mod day

here ya go... here are some CST ones for sale in your area

Thanks! I reached out to a shop that has been much more reasonable with all their other pricing to get a quote about doing the spindle lift. I should hear back this morning....

I may just end up going back to my original plan of selling the truck.... we'll see...

Dude, there's alot of ways that you can go because your a prerunner. I got the kit directly from rcd for 1400, then payed 650 at express performance to have it installed ( I was lazy and didnt want to mess with cutting the crossmember, i had a 4x4) so that put it at $2050(with alignments and such) rolling down the road. (i got the kit before it was put out on the market, so i dont know if youll get the same deal.)

I would recommend that you go over to the Truck Shop on Miramar and talk with james. Tell him what you want to do with your truck and the budget that your working with. He'll be straight up with you and give you the best available options for what you want.

Be careful of trying to go the cheap route, cause with this your most def going to get what you pay for. Stay away from people on craigslist advertising installs that are to good to be true.

Remeber in the end, its your truck so get what you want. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback! I found a local shop that is willing to do the Camburg Spindles, Bilstien 5100 on all 4 corners, AAL/Block, install and alignment for $1950..
Does this sounds like a good deal?

I am also looking at less expensive options, such as keeping it at 3", but i would really like to go higher :D

So I went and talked to James. He gave me a quote of $2350 for the Camburg option, and recommended i do not go with the OME or Toytec 3" options because, according to him, they will ride similar to the spacer lift.

Back to the drawing board... :frusty:
