As to Snapping Turtles, they're mean AF.
I've seem them take ducklings several times.
The only turtles meaner are maybe Soft Shells.

My Dad would catch Snappers from time to time and Grandma would make soup.
He'd grab 'em by the tail and hold them away from his legs.
They have amazingly long necks.
One time he was holding one and said: "Watch this"
He picked up a stick as thick as his thumb and tapped the Snapper on its beak.

Yep! There was a big ass leather back in our road a couple years ago. I was all WTF cuz it was huge! At least 16” from the front to the back of the ‘shell’ if you want to call it that. I stopped the truck and I’m looking at this thing knowing there ain’t no phkn way I’m touching it! Landscape crew across the street. I yell ‘Hey! Bring a shovel’ One dude mentioned dinner…
Anyway, slipped that flat transfer shovel under that ass and started to lift and push. That bitch stuck its neck out so far it bit dafuq outta that shovel. Mouth was bleeding. Freaked us out!
