^^ No. you wont be better off with another truck! Just upgrade the suspension, wheels/tires, and call it a day.

I'm not going to buy a brand new truck and plan to gut the suspension and start from scratch, period. If it's a major weak point, I need to take that into consideration when I'm picking a new vehicle this summer and buy something I can trust for 10 years with little more than normal maintenance. I'll probably do a few minor mods but ultimately it will be a daily driver, not a project vehicle.

That being said, I just dug through a recent issue of Consumer Reports and they gave the Tacoma's suspension a "better than average" reliability rating for every year back to 2000, so I find it hard to believe that it's a major issue. Do you guys (or the people you know who have had major problems with the stock suspension) tow, haul, and off-road a lot? I can believe that any vehicle is going to have suspension issues under extreme use, but frankly mine will rarely leave paved roads or haul more than a few hundred pounds.

This post sounds really negative AND it's off-topic, sorry for that... info would be much appreciated though, and I could start a new thread for it if that's the right way to go about it.

    Thanks guys!

Its funny that even with a longbed double cab the truck is still 7 inches shorter than the tundra.

Definitely think the Access cab LOOKS better but I preferred the extra space inside the ca rather the bed. If the Acess cab were a foot shorter in overall length I would have gone for it though

IF I had to tow a lot or needed to often carry heavy loads I would not have bought the Tacoma. Would have bought a Tundra or F-150.

1/2 the people who own them even on this board don't seem to mod them or take them off road for fun. I would guess nationally most don't go off road or tow with them and have no issue with the suspension i their daily use and like the car like ride Ford trucks were and are famous for.

For those who own vehicles and drive them from the outside in I agree. People will suffer a lot of expense, inconvenience, and comfort..... for approval from others. For those of us who drive and live from the inside out, well we don't give a flying crap about what some stranger or even friend thinks about our choices. We are not "approval seekers" nor are our egos "easily bruised." That's a real fact.

Some people buy a truck to carry grass clippings to the dump once a week or like that they can go to Costco and buy the 52 Inch flat screen and take it home today!! Or pick up a load of yard mulch once a year.
    .
Seems to me those who worry about what others think and have strong opinions about what is "cool" or not about their stuff are the true poseurs..and "pretend" people..sound familiar?

To me it depends on what your plans are. If you are going to lift it then I say the long bed. Leaving it stock, the short bed is better looking imo. If you are doing hard core off roading I say short, lifted or not. Of course for hard core off roading why have a DC anyway? And of course if you are hauling the long bed is a no brainer.

I went with the short bed mainly for ease of parking, fits the garage better and for the looks since I dont plan to lift it. I traded down from a Dodge Ram quad cab and the long bed was only a couple inches shorter than the Ram. It would have kinda defeated the purpose of trading. I am hoping to buy a trailer in the future, had that in mind when I decided to go with the short bed.

    But to each his own.;)

A short bed is ok, if you like it short, but 2wd? Who buys a 2wd and calls it a truck! Now that's funny! Oh wait, I guess living in Texas you would not need 4wd. Oh, No, that's not true as I saw all that snow / ice just a week back.

    :D
So What do they call 2WD vehicles with metal or plastic beds over a couple wheels in PA nowadays? Do real "he-men trucks" have plastic beds, Beau?:D

Step into the balmy Southeast......No real honest need for 4WD here. 2WD outsell them by a good margin new and used. People are generally more frugal here and less ostentatious than their northern brethren.Been there done that...Down here the natives "work to live" and don't buy more than they need....

And yeah they call vehicles with plastic or metal beds over two drive wheels here.... trucks.:D:D

I know you're probably kidding, but there really is a lot of places where 4x4 is never needed.

Not to thread jack, but Rich, is there any tips on wheeling with a longer wheelbase? Like anything to do different? I ask because I have a Tundra and it has the identical wheelbase as the DCLB and I know you offroad yours pretty good.
