I had an update from my dealership on Friday and my ETA was pushed back 1 week (after being brought forward a week), to be received early-mid June (end of Jan order). Looks like their dates have been pretty accurate with the exception of the premium packages!

Dealer told me today that Toyota just sent them a memo that June production will be cut by 100,000 vehicles. Not sure what models are affected.
He said, so far 2022 production is worse off than 2021.

Picked up today ! So happy.

    1. Originally ordered DCSB TRD Off-road in MGM/ non premium in Jan 2022
    2. Checked in around April with my sales person, no eta or build date at all from Toyota.
    3. On their site they had a unallocated TRD sport in red incoming, thankfully was able to intercept that for a end of May ETA
    4. Picked up today, it was dropped to-the dealer last Friday

I have asked my dealer twice about the premiums being stopped. Their response is that they have not heard anything about that yet. You would think they would, or they are holding out hope that there might be something coming? Possibly a bunch of trucks sitting waiting for the specific parts, then they release them to be allocated?

Sounds like it worked out well. Barcelona red long beds are the best!

I think that's definitely a possibility. Someone mentioned they might be shipping out trail editions instead of premiums if they can't get the specific parts which wouldn't be a terrible result. If I were you, I'd send an email to your dealer and ask for a photo of the order in their system so you can see what the progress actually is, if there is any.

I received the same info today. Sport premium was in production and due to arrive beginning of June. The manager said all premiums have a temporary production cut due to blind spot monitor. No new eta.

Some story here... I went in person to my dealership, in Montreal area. He showed new allocations for Trail edition (heading west) and some TRD Sport PREMIUM. I still have my deposit on a LR TRD OR premium, they took and sold my BMW 340i as a deposit... will be hard to return it.

Not sure, if this is a tactic... from either side.. trying to force you to an available model or keeping your business until they figure out a solution.

You should see this as a lesson learned. I would never trade a vehicle for another one without a contract (except if all you wanted is the money). Then, you should never pay a large deposit without a contract. When I say a contract, I mean a real one with a serial number. In Canada, you should be protected. Go back to the dealership, ask your money and leave a $500 refundable deposit for a Tacoma. The thing is, the situation is chaotic at the moment and there’s no guarantee on anything. I paid a refundable $500 deposit in April 2021 for a 2021 Tacoma, ended up with a 2022 Tacoma in April 2022… Either you leave a deposit in their hands to have first choice or you don’t and look around for an available model (pretty much non-existent - all the ones coming to the dealers are already spoken for).

Thank you for feedback. I was ready to wait. This is my second car. Meanwhile, I bought a beater. My teens will use for driving lessons later (and not the brand new Tacoma). We have pretty good laws in Quebec. Basically, if I end up with a 2023, it will be at the same costs… and if they back out of the deal, they will need to compensate taxes recovery on trade-in. I am not worried on the monetary aspect, and only if I will get it on time for moose hunting season. Anyway, I don’t believe I will get there.

I believe that car makers are currently shifting their business model and testing it. Dealers are caught in the middle. They don’t get the proper visibility. Slowly, carmakers will take them out of the ordering process.

If I was a dealer, I would start to panic right-now, because we clearly see that they don’t bring any added-value in the ordering process.

This is not how it works. They haven’t sold you anything yet. I paid the 2022 price, because my deposit was for an « expected » 2021 which never arrived. The dealer won’t make a real contract until they have a serial number. And without a real contract, you’re exposed to price increases as well as interest rate fluctuations. Basically, you take what it is at the moment they receive it or they’ll (easily) sell it to someone else. So all you paid for is a place in the lineup for the next Tacoma to arrive at the dealership (from the allocation at factory or from an exchange with another dealer).

I’m not sure the car industry will shift to direct consumer business. At the moment, the dealership will « prepare » (wash, install options, etc.) the vehicle for you, as well as offering the service (regular and warranty). That’s cost efficient for the makers and it’s convenient for the customers. I hardly see another way to do that.

I understand, but in Quebec, taking a deposit is as good as a real contract. To be honest, it would in the best interest of the dealer to write a full contract instead just take a deposit. (Yes, indeed you have to stay patient)

I believe that that we are saying the same thing. Yes, the dealers will stay in the equation of the ordering process but they won’t add any added value (not like before). Check the madness in US for +++MRSP (like paint protection option at 14999, yes 14k). Service/maintenance is another subject.

Yes sir! I bought my 2016 used from South Pointe and they were clowns. Stampede was awesome every step of the way.

Ya I agree...went to Southpoint the guy was ok to deal with when I went in then turned into a typical salesman with the std BS. Bought my 2nd gen in 2005 from Stampede, always serviced it there and went there again for this one. They are the best to deal with in YYC my opinion

Absolutely. I was sold when I asked about cost for extended warranty (Stupid me!), and the finance manager said I am buying a Toyota and do not need it lol.

Stampede seemed fine, but my bar is set so low-it's literally at the "will the sales team even talk to me" point.
Waltzed around and looked interested at Charlesglen, CH and Heninger and the sales team would rather talk amongst themselves. Couldn't even get a passing "hi" at those dealers.

Dealerships can be odd. They seem to be either high pressure or so relaxed they don't seem to care, no in-between. I looked at a pre-owned Yukon Denali at Strathmore GM before deciding on my Tacoma and they were so laid back it was honestly off-putting.
