6” lift, full body armor( Hline bumpers, Hooke road roof rack W recovery board mounts, icon leaf springs, spidertrax spacers1.25”, 35x12.50xr20” tires, fuel 20x10” rims, total Chaos bed stiffeners, blacked out tail lights, full light kit pod lights, front and rear light bars, skid plate, rough country steps.
Have a question about shock travel and over extension.

I recently purchased 7” lift blocks for my truck. Now I’m searching for shocks. The guys are the truck shop are saying I can just use shock extenders, however I know this is a bad idea.

My question is if I have 7” lift blocks how big of a shock do I need? Also if a shock says 2.5 adjustable 6 to 7” is that enough to prevent over extension when driving or do I need the 6.5 to 8” non adjustable? Serious question here guys.

If you are using blocks and factory springs, there will be no difference in suspension travel. You will still have the exact same down travel and up travel as you had without the blocks. So shock length can be factory with a shock extension.

No with that, I will politely say, that blocks over 1.5" are not something I would ever suggest. At 7" you are going to greatly increase your torsional flex in the springs causing them to fail much faster than normal. ( you will wind the spring up ) it is more expensive but I would suggest a spring pack...

Since you will still have the standard travel on your rear suspension...on 7" taller, you can use stock shocks with a 7" extender. Just remember to extend bump stops 7" as well or you will blow a shock out. Prob wouldn't be a bad idea to put limit straps on there too so you protect the shock both ways.

7" is lift block is way more of a bad idea than shock extenders.

Ok, would a 6”7” shock work without extenders ?
the vertex 6 to 7 “ shocks will get the job done with no extenders and have enough travel not to be topped out ?

I had never heard of a 7” block prior to this post. Do those actually exist and work? I think are risking a lot of axel wrap.

In any case, from what you have told us you don’t need longer travel shocks since your travel is the same with or without the blocks. Go with the extenders; whatever those are. I assume they are equivalent of the spacers used on the front IFS with a drop bracket lift. You just need to move the bottom of your shock down 7”.

Can you explain why you think you need longer travel shocks?
