Take a look at the last 2 years for examples of how invasive they can be when they see fit. Not much explaining needed on the opinion.

I'd rather have a V6 only if it made more power than the 3.5, the Tacoma is just too fat now. All that low end torque should make the truck feel much better, as long as the turbo lag is minimal. (Which Toyota/Lexus just aren't the best at making competitive turbo engines, so I doubt it'll be great)

Looks like it'll move 4000 lbs to 60 in 6.6 seconds on a premium fuel tune, so maybe a mid to high 7 second 0-60 on a next gen Tacoma? Pretty lackluster...

The phase out of the 2GR is officially underway. Over the next year or so all 2GR applications....both transverse and longitudinal arrangements will give way to a turbo 4. So no more V6 Avalon (which is going away after '22 altogether), Camrys, Highlanders, ect. This will also eventually be the case with the Tacoma.

The 2GR had a good run. It debuted way back in 2004 in the '05 Avalon.

The one exception will be the 3.4 TT V6 (which shares some basic architecture with the 2GR). It will continue in the Tundra, Sequoia, Landcruiser/LX and LS500 (which it's been in for a few years now).

Would have been cool to see the lower output 3.5TT in a TRD pro tacoma or 4runner. Won't happen though.
