I went to Usal on a Tuesday/wednesday weeks back. I was the only one there on the beach for camping, two other trucks were just there for the day. Others were at the treeline but it was so quiet and peaceful. I hear weekends get crazy there and I wasn't going to find out.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Anyone down to do a trail clearing / trail opening at Niagara Rim Trail on Friday?

Just seeing if anyone is interested. 4x4 In Motion is working with Stanislaus Nat Forest, trying to set it up. This will be trail blazing (first ones through in 2022). But work gloves will be needed. (and bow saws, and chainsaws, if you have them, and are interested).

I know it's no notice, and it's a workday for most. But that's they way Stanislaus National Forest Service works unfortunately.

Thinking about heading into Stanislaus NF for the long weekend with my dog.

I have a route saved on Gaia that someone posted in the NorCal section. I can’t seem to find the post it came from, but it’s title Cottonwood Rd to Bell Meadow.
    https://www.gaiagps.com/public/G15D3f3tsH8KKwam5w8j9DGw

I do not know that area at all, so I was just wondering if anyone familiar with the area knows if there’s anything I need to look out for along the route? Is it pretty tame, or are there any road closures to be aware of? Thanks in advance!

Change of plans (par for the course with Stanislaus Nat Forest)

They wont let us clear Niagara Rim till Saturday the 4th. But this will be the trail blazing run on NRT for 2022. The trail will be opened AFTER we run it and clear it.

Those interested MUST have capible rigs and able bodies. The trail will probably be A LOT harder than it is in the summer. It is still very soaked with some snow. This trip will be work.

Does that mean the rest of 5N01 is opening at the expiration of the forest order, or no info on that yet?

Normally, 5N01 opens in 2 sections. They open to NRT trailhead and then they open the rest later in the Season.

Yeah, that is the usual routine, but I like to be overly optimistic, and then disappointed. :crapstorm:

    I wish.

I’m committed all day Saturday and Sunday morning. Sounds like a really fun time.

Are people supposed to sign up or just show up in the morning?

We're working out a time and place to meet up. Sounds like Stanislaus National Forest is going to let us stay at Niagara Campground Saturday night.

Didn't even see your post till now.

I probably posted that Gaia route. I know that area pretty well.

We will probably, actually, be up there this weekend. Have some stuff to do tomorrow. We plan on heading up in the afternoon.

That area is pretty much clear of snow. That route is tame terrain wise. I haven't been back through a lot of those roads yet this year. There may be trees in the road. It's normally mid June before 3N29 and 4N25 are completely clear... and a lot of the time it's me that cleared it lol.

I think @CemenTRDgen made it up to the upper Clavey Bridge (pretty much the top of that route) a few weeks ago, but I don't know which way he came in from to get there.

Beware that both crossings of the Clavey between 3N01 bridge (lower) and upper Clavey Bridge are water crossings. You wont make those with the flows right now... that's not the way that route takes you, but if you off shoot that route, don't plan on crossing the Clavey except at the bridges.

Lastly, take gas. We normally fill up in Cold Springs when we come back out to 108 just below Pinecrest. But Cold Springs store is closed right now.

    Thanks for the info!
I unfortunately have to postpone. My dog got a foxtail in his paw and just had a minor surgery to remove it, so I’m going to stay home to keep an eye on him. Hoping to make it out in a week or 2 though.

I saw your post about doing some trail clearing and actually would have loved to help out. Appreciate the work you and others do to clear out the trails!

Niagara Rim Trail clearing got moved to Sat 6/4 and Sun 6/5.

This weekend the plan is to do a similar route to the Cottonwood/Bell Meadows map. Blaze trail and clear what needs to be cleared.

Looks like it'll just be the wife and I this weekend. So I'll get as far as I can. We're going to start at Cottonwood and end up at Bell Meadow but we're going different roads on the lower end below 3N01 (through Wolfen Meadow)

Any one help with some sick dispersed camping sites? (open to pay sites as well)
I’m located in the Plumas National forest, from Florida and looking to do some truck camping. Last season camped up in crescent city area and once in the truckee area, help and tips appreciated! 73D86DB5-9364-4D28-849C-BC57CC20FB35.jpg

That is a beautiful view. I was there last August (near Sycamore Flat) and I could hear the sea lions, but all I got to see was fog. The forest was pretty though.

    It’s amazing yo there.
Is your 2nd pic at the very end of the road? Looks like the spot I turned around at my first time up there, but seems like a great camping spot if you want or be in the trees
