i think this is a large and ignored part of what's driving up used car prices as well. A lot of younger guys realizing if you're gonna have one or two vehicles, there's a lot of merit to maintaining an older one that's simpler and cooler lookin than going out every couple years and spending more on a new gadget-mobile shaped like an extra tenth of mpg and a good crash rating. Probably most of it is still the lack of new cars available at all but people's priorities are changing too

I saw within the last two weeks that year over year new car sales were down 13% for April.
That’s bad news for my old employer.
If new car sales are down 13%, so are the orders for components for OEM producers.

I drive a 97 4runner. Wife has an 08 tacoma. Can we both afford new vehicles....yes but I find it more fun keeping these on the road. Plus I just dont want a payment to show off to everyone else. We spend way more on mods and such that bring us joy of getting out and doing the adventure thing. Plus both get compliments all the time over all the new trucks and suv's out there.

From what I've been able to deduce the biggest issue on that front is the semi-conductor shortages. Car manu's are fighting with everyone else for the chips that go in their thing.

I'm doubting they even give a shit about inflation, the chance to fix that was a while ago. If anything inflation benefits them by giving an excuse to push their digital currency. Looks to me more like culling demand by raising rates is easier than fixing massive supply chain issues organically

Yea tough spot to be in. It'd be nice to see some of them make up for it by adding more part numbers for older vehicles that are still common

Definitely the main issue. I just don't see that being the whole of it from what i see day to day

Wouldn't rain man be entering total mileage so rounding errors didn't get compounded?

I read some stuff somewhere about diesel being a really big issue in the near future and causing even more issues in supply/demand, but we’ll see. The basis was that Russia is the largest exporter of Urea fertilizer and that’s used in DEF. Quatar being second and china third. Russia and china are supposedly not exporting it any longer leaving us in a bind.
    Time will tell

Fertilizing for farmers has gone up nearly 30% this year and I heard supply was low in the corn belt.

Thats what I’m reading as well, I guess we’ll see what happens. Funny enough that will drive gas prices even higher since a rule on E15 was waived for summer months.

Russia provides 20% of the fertilizer to the world, Belarus provides 40% of the potassium to the world. So the export/import bans of them hurt the supply chains.

    That's Fuelly.com
I was curious how much I would actually spend on fuel..which also allows me to compare my truck to say owning a Tesla and what not...
If I spent 20K on my truck and have spent $18K on fuel since Feb of 2013 the total (no oil/parts) cost of my truck has been $38,000. A Tesla was $57K AND would need a new battery after 10 years so think of how far ahead I am $$$ wise...Plus I have a tacoma :)
This was 1/2 to just screw with my friend who had a 2013 Model S which was $57,000
    AND
The battery needs replacement at 100,000ish miles for $14,000 presently.
That means I would have had at least 1 battery replacement
    so that's $71,000
VS my maybe $40,000 with oil changes...$43,000 with parts...setting aside tesla tires are more expensive....
I've used it since I got my truck...It's my sig too
BTW my friend has traded in his Tesla 2x and is on his 3rd now...
    I'm still driving the taco
