I've just used it to test messages. It seems slow for sending. Much slower than texting via phone. I guess the overhead is from sending the message to the satellite for redistribution to a phone network. Maybe slow by design to keep conversations from becoming chatty.

I thought I had read that it costs money every time you have to send a message too or no? Or maybe you're limited to a certain amount per year, something about it is so that it can't (or shouldn't) be used as a normal communication device... At least not without it being prohibitively expensive I thought

Depends on the plan I think as to the number of messages. I will suspend the plan once off-roading season ends. So I'll only pay for 6 months out of the year.

    Man, that sounds terrible :(

You can do pre canned messages that are free, and then the rest get charged.

I usually set up a “under way for the day” message and a “stopped for the night message”.

I like that you can pay them to store the data and have it accessible on their website but not have to pay for the inreach service the whole time.

My code deactivates all airbags in the vehicle from what I understand. And for some reason since this is going to be my only ride for the next 4-5 months it bothered me not having any. But in reality the airbags on these trucks probably don't help much.
Yeah it could be a lot worse. Just a few things about it that I can't really solve without just replacing the cab entirely.

I bought it before the Barnwell Mountain Rec Area trip thinking I might use it. Freaking place has cell coverage and a tower. Everybody was using FB messenger to communicate.

LS motors are hilarious. If you want to move your alternator to a new place you just go on Amazon! Lol

Hey that's great! I did the same thing with my New Holland 914a mower deck. Rebuilt the spindles to learn / 'good insurance' and now somethings not right and it's now making a lot of noise, so I'm tearing back into all of it. The only thing I can figure is that the bearings I got were not the right height and are causing the preload to not be right.

Whatever the problem turns out to be I'll never forget it!
