Cracked windshield

So I need a new windshield
What’s the best quality replacement..?
After searching I don’t see a clear choice
Also the rubber on the cowl..?
Seems to rotting
Can I get new rubber or does the whole part (cowl) need replacing..?

you are best off getting OEM. Nowadays there is special glass for your GPS, tint on the top, etc etc...its not all just plain glass. Have you called your insurance? a lot of policies let you get a replacement for about $100 deductible without getting dinged on your premiums. It may vary state to state, but the windshield was not part of the normal $1000 deductible for the rest of the truck. Over the years I have had a few replaced this way.

What I also found out the dealership (On a chevy) told me it would be faster/cheaper to take it to the windshield supplier in town "THey do all the glass for all the dealerships" (and that is exactly where we are going to take it)...I went to this unassuming shop near the airport and they confirmed. Obviously this would vary from town to town.

I had my windshield replaced about 3 weeks ago. Safelite did it for me. I went with OEM glass, so the price was just over $1500 total. They also have to recalibrate the front camera sensors when replacing it. They will replace the rubber on the cowl when they do it. My truck was barely a year old, and they replaced mine.

I was originally quoted around $700, for non OEM glass.

 

Mine is a 2016 so pretty sure no cameras or anything to calibrate.

 

Good, that'll be a cheaper price overall and easier to install and get it done.

 

Had mine replaced by Safelite about 2 months ago. Cost was 300 or 350 for the glass ($50 windshield deductible ftw). Been great so far. "OEM" which isn't actually Toyota glass is just as 'fragile' as the rest....look at how fast others on here report cracked ones.

No issues or complaints with mine.

No such thing as OEM glass. One of three manufacturers mad the windshield for Toyota.

 

so if you look at one of the corners you will see some codes on your windshield. These codes mean something to glass people. I couldn't find a complete list.
As far as OEM...i consider that to mean a toyota labled product like the windshield of my 2012. I believe they make some cheaper "no-name" windshield replacements. Is it worse quality, I dont know, but I personally would stick with something that a dealership would put on your truck. I would hate to end up with some cheapo glass from China that turns into shards like in the old days.

had one of those mobile guys replace mine with pilkington glass and didn't have to do any re calibration for TSS. total cost including labor was $350.
