What about caulk? (the holes aren't in the most obvious place so I'm not worried about it looking ugly).

These bees disapear in these holes so I imagine they actually dig out a decent chunk of wood. But a stainable wood filler would work well before I stain the deck.

Have you considered replacing the whole decking board if you are worried about structural integrity?

They have homes kind of all over the place, and I'm not worried about structural integrity (obviously nothing I would put it in there will help that) it's more just preventing future infestations.

And with the cost of lumber, no I have no considered replacing where they made holes :)

They are actually in the rafters and stairs. Not the surface boards.

I would imagine that outdoor wood filler would be the best. Then use something like Rustoleum's Restore for decking to seal it up for the future.

These pests eventually cause damage to expensive property and put me and family at risk for ER visits if they sting or bite (I've got a lovely hornets nest too).

I'm perfectly fine with mass murder now and then discouragement in the future.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
When I was a kid my dad used to stick cigarette butts in the carpenter bee holes.

Now, I have cellular PVC decking and lumber, so no worries..until plasti-bees become a reality.

Is your pocket door system something you bought or made on site ? Specifically talking about the pocket side studs

Pretty sure the critters on my property are not the bulk of the pollinators for the world. No one will miss them.

And for what its worth I understand their value and will plant plants that encourage pollinators. I just have an infestation to deal with because the previous owners were lazy to the point of being negligent. Once I get the deck cleaned and stained it will discourage future home building by species I don’t want. I’ll give them pretty flowers on other parts of the property.

I actually bought the kits on Amazon. Had tons of great reviews. Johnson Hardware series. I bought the commercial versions. The side studs are nice and came with self tapping metal screws for drywall or plywood or whatever
