Anyone else have their h9 bulb conversion cause yellowing of their housing?
I had swapped my h11s with modified Philips h9s before I got a set of oem leds. They were in 4 maybe 5 months. Being in Alaska the lights were on quite a bit but when I when swapped the housings, I was surprised to find this much discoloration.
I’m not sure what the C1 designation means. Is that where I messed up?

C1 is the packaging designation. Carton (box) of 1. Vs B1 is Blisterpack of 1. The molded plastic packaging with paper board backing.

Just curious if you tried to wipe it off with like an alcohol wipe? No input to give you just curious if it’s just superficial

I didn’t try to clean it up or anything as I was doing the full housing swap, but that’s a really good idea. I’ll do that before I jump to conclusions about overheating.
I was just surprised I hadn’t seen it happen to anyone one else here and that it happened so quickly since they definitely didn’t look like that before the h9s. I would have been really bummed if I was keeping them and didn’t find it until one of the bulbs burnt out after 200 hrs. By that point if it’s heat and not gunk, it would have been even worse presumably.
I’d like to be able to sell them to recoup some money on the leds, but the led running light housings are abundant and don’t seem to go for very much

I ran a couple sets of H9s in mine, but I never checked the sockets when I swapped housings. I can check later.

Looking at the image of the 9011 bulb made in Korea, it has T22 on it. What's the purpose of that nomenclature? Also, I found these : Would they work in the 5thGen 4runner as high beam replacements? These have V24..

Not exactly sure on the last number on the back of the bulbs, something with manufacturing batch or similar would be my guess. But yes, those are the correct latest 9011s!

@musicisevil I checked my 4Runner housings. The low beam sockets appear to be aluminum instead of plastic.

Nice work! If you find a stash of those somewhere, I'm sure you'd make some easy money selling to the rest of us who haven't.

Nice! I appreciate the time you spent taking the pic. Wonder if anyone else has experienced this discoloring

Picked up a set of Nokya Hyper Yellow 9011s. I'll see how they do tonight.

I was looking at a set of those for my honda, but I found a second (and recently 3rd) korean sylvania 9011 in the meantime, so I'm running those currently. Would definitely be interested in comparison pics if you can lock your camera settings between bulbs.

I'm going to see if I can get my GoPro to cooperate tonight. I think I can lock the ISO for video.

Edit: The GoPro app is unusable, and I don't see iso settings. I'll use my phone camera.

If you take a photo with one new 9011 bulb and one previous 9005 bulb sibe-by-side in the same picture, it shows the difference without needing to worry about ISO lock.

4Runner OEM LEDs with Nokya 9011 high beams.

Excuse the dirty windshield. I think it messed with the focus a bit.

That is both with the 9011s? Unfortunately with the focus it doesn’t show very well.

Yeah. I can try one side with a 9011 and the other with a 9005 on another night. I'll try to have the windshield clean too. (Bug season here)

So I tried again with my old GoPro. The focus still isn't great. The video kind of downplays how bright the lights are. In person, with both lows+highs, it's very bright. You've seen how bright the OEM LEDs are, maybe it might give you an idea how bright the Nokya 9011s are. They are coated yellow, so they won't perform like the Sylvania 9011s.

This is a dark, narrow and twisty road. It's been a little more developed over the last few years, but at one time, there were no street lights at all. I switch the highs on/off occasionally as I drive

Yes. It is a sub brand/company of Diode Dynamics that imports Chinese lighting products from brands such as Vland and others to resell under their own label in the USA. This is the same concept as 'GTR Lighting', which is a sub brand/company of Morimoto that also imports Chinese lighting products from brands like Vland and others to resell under their own label in the USA. It is an imported value brand offering that is separate from Diode Dynamics product line which is designed and assembled in the USA and aims for top tier performance. The value brand products will not compete in performance with Morimoto or Diode Dynamics superior offerings.
