I'm looking to get a better on Road ride. I have with the sport suspension which is jarring and harsh. Is the off-road shocks a lot better does anybody have any experience with this?

    Potentially marginally better at best.

If you want on road comfort improvement you'll have to look at aftermarket.

That said at the end of the day it's a sold rear axle body on frame truck they all kinda ride like shit.

Before I bought my off road I test drove both and found that the sport suspension was harsh and the off road a little bit mushy. I went with mushy.

I’ve driven both before and I went with the Off-Road last purchase. I also owned a Pro once. Key is right, still a truck but I can say the Off-Road is softer. Tires matter somewhat too, when I was on Michelins the ride was a bit easier than now I’m on a set of Duratracs. Often the Off-Road take offs are for sale cheap, some with only a few short miles, maybe try a set out and see what you think.

Yep. You get to choose between harsh/stiff or mushy.

Personally I didn’t like OR suspension on the streets. Nose dive is ridiculous.

Aftermarket is your best bet if you really wanna improve your suspension.

Totally agree. I drove both and would bet anyone that if they were blind folded that they couldn't tell which one they were driving. The fact that it is a truck should be the least of anyone's concern when it comes to ride quality between the two models. I'm guessing that fake hood scoop has as much of an impact as anything.

Really? The difference was huge when I drove OR after my sport. Super mushy vs very stiff, noticeable right away.

If you guys think Tacoma has a harsh ride, go drive a ranger with torsion bars. Haha

The taco will feel like a Cadillac in comparison.

The reason I ask is because I've driven a truck for several years I'm coming from a g m c Sierra. The sport feels the tractor-trailer I drive for a living very harsh I want it to be softer nosedive be damned.

My experience too. Also went with Off-Road. It’s ride is heavily influenced by roadbed quality and can be a little bouncy on rough roads.

I think the Offroad ride is pretty good. But my truck is stock except for the wheels and tires. Running Michelin LTX AT2 on mine for the foreseeable future.

Nosedive on the Tacoma is a lot less than my 4Runner. Fixed the 4Runner with Toytec Boss shocks on the front.

Lots of TRD Off Road setups on craigslist. I sold my front coilovers assembled with shocks and rear shocks for like 150 bucks. You can replace whole setup from craigslist. Leaf springs are the same between the two so no worries there. Just start watching CL. Buy them there and if you don't like them no big dollar loss. Only reason I sold mine was I added a winch and bumper and needed something heavier. It will neve ride like a Cadillac as it is a small truck. My previous Silverado was always cushy, but it also weighted a whole heck of a lot more.

I thought the nosedive on my Sport was bad, couldn't imagine what it is like on the OR. I finally caved and bought 5100's. They should arrive today and will install them this weekend.

I hated the offroads suspension on the highway. Hitting potholes on the highway made the thing dance all over the place. I switched to pro fox shocks and now cant even feel those same pot holes.

Nose dive on the sport is non existent compared to the OR. It really is that bad.

Adjust your rear brake shoes, the VSC drags them often and they wear down and get out of adjustment frequently.

Out of the stock 3rd gen Tacoma shocks I prefer the SR5 as they are a happy medium, the sport shocks were stiff and I felt every bump on the test drive and when riding in my friends off-road I noticed it was a little too soft. The off-road shocks softness are most noticeable when braking, the front end seems to dip a lot more than the sport or SR5. I upgraded to the OEM Trd lift kit shocks and they are comparable to the 5100 bilsteins.
