Cool. I'll keep you in the loop. For now I'm hanging onto it just in case I can't find a 2nd Gen. Once I get one I'll shoot you a PM.

Good! Finished up cutting class a few weeks ago, currently on summer break since they didnt' have anything available over the summer. Had a job interview yesterday and a followup to that in a couple days, along with a few other interviews. She isn't quite sure where she'll end up in this industry, but seriously enjoys the subject.

How much time do you have left in school?

It was in Mammoth Lakes on a paved road. It just happens to be near a large open space. It was a perfect place to break it. lol

Hasn't gotten to any actual welding yet, but she's been inspecting all of mine

I've done a little with her around here and I think she'll pick it up well.

when I first got my tig like 15 yrs ago I took a full on welding class that cost like a G. The first 2, 4 hr classes consisted of fuck head talking about safety, the next 2, 4hr classes consisted of stick welding. I opted for the self taught thing.

YEah she had a whole class on welding safety and materials and such before even getting into the shop. Then weeks of torch cutting, followed by plasma and some other cutting technologies, followed by a practical and a written test.

I did the self taught thing, and I feel like I'm half decent with a mig welder on mild steel, but I don't know how much I don't know until I ask the right questions. A class really lays it out, and she's finding that the instructors all have good industry experience which is great to leverage when you're debating career paths.
