I have a 2012 regular cab auto 4wd with 2.7l tacoma. It was not prewired from the factory. I ordered the wires of ebay and a switch off Amazon. I hooked everything up correctly per the rostra instructions and tge cruise does not work. Do I have to take it and let the dealer turn a setting on?

There is no setting to turn on for cruise, it's usually a matter just adding the wires & switch.
Does the cruise light turn on and off with the switch?

No lights or anything. I think I have a bad clock spring. I removed the switch and hooked the wires to the switch to bypass the clock spring and the light turns on. Now to find the correct clock spring. I don't have stero controls on the steering wheel. All the clock springs I have found so far are setup for that

That may be the one you need but I'm not sure, @TnShooter may know someone who knows for sure.

So I narrowed it down to the power side wire in the clock spring. So I swapped the hot and ground on the connector below the steering column and swapped the ground and hot on the steering wheel side and took the ground out of the jumper harness connector and grounded it to the steering wheel and the cruise works. So now just gotta find a clock spring or leave it like it is. Haven't decided

I know there was a recall on the clock spring for some years. (Mine was included).
I think it would be best to verify by VIN #.
When it comes to things that involve an airbag, I find it best to be certain you have the right one.
And I’d go OEM if at all possible.

Mine doesn't fall within the recall. Yeah I wanna go oem but they are expensive.

I was referring to it seems like I saw somewhere on here that some trucks that aren't prewired for cruise don't have the circuits for it in the clockspring either but I could be wrong.

Not sure on that. But I do remember that if it isn’t prewired, you have to run a separate wire to the ECU.
I’ll see if I can find the link I posted once before with the directions.

Awesome thanks. The 2012 is like the read headed step child or something. So many differences about the 2012 lol. Just like the cruise switch cover is different on the 2012s

    I have a couple questions.
Does the OP have the Rostra instructions that I can look at.
    Manual or automatic?

I changed my clock spring to get stereo controls, I believe the clock spring has the provision for cruise no matter what truck you have. I'll need a picture of the clock spring pins to be sure.
When I did mine I bought a clock spring from a 2015, a cruise switch (possibly also from a 2015) and the little cover for the switch. You only need to ground the switch and run a wire to the ECU. The first time I had the wrong pin in the ECU and blew a fuse so be careful. I've included the wiring diagram I used. The only part you're interested in is this:

I used the rostra wiring. My clock spring has the 2 air bag plugs and the real small square one with 3 pins in it. 1 for the horn and the 2 for cruise. I don't have the big port for radio controls. I went port 1 on the clock spring colum side to port 31 on the ecm. The ground from port 2 on clock spring to frame ground. I ended up find the the port 1 pin on the clock spring is OL. So I removes the ground wire from the jumper harness and ground it to one of the screws on the switch. Then relocated the power wire to port 2 and moved the power wire over in the jumper harness. And it all works great. I know I will have to do a clock spring at some point. I'm a diesel mechanic at a kenworth dealership. Just not so familiar with Toyota stuff. I'm good at wiring. I've had to overlay many wires on trucks before. Way more challenging lol.

Ordered a ebay clock spring that has all the pins in for radio controls, and cruise and it works perfect and I have cruise again.
