Coupla questions for whoever knows. We are considering selling the place and moving east.

How do folks who live in RVs get their mail? With no permanent address, I think that would be a problem. If we move, there is a chance that we might be at a temporary address, at least for a few days. Will likely be moving to an unknown address for a while.

Another question--I pay taxes regularly on the mutual funds I own. What are the tax consequences of selling those funds? It appears buyers might want me to carry the paper and I would have to sell some funds to pay for the next one (we have lived debt free for almost 50 years and don't want to change that).

    TIA

I gotta ask, or I will forget again. How is your recovered greenhouse doing for your wife? The "window inspiration" completely changed mine this year (so far!).

Don't consider this expert advice... but I've heard a few things.

When we were in South Dakota, I was told that there are a lot of RV living people that get their residency, licenses for themselves and vehicles, and a post office box with someone that will forward their mail as requested. Not sure why South Dakota is the state they see as attractive except that there is no state income tax. There may be other perks as well.

    Both were excellent. Pics below.

Taxes should be capital gains but you will probably get a 1099 form also. If it was me selling to buy a RV I would look at the interest rate of the loan and see if I am making a better growth rate, including dividends, with the securities I own. It might be better to float the loan and pay a payment but in these times the market is uncertain in the short haul.

Getting ready for an upper GI today. OH Yea!

    Pics from yesterdays cook.

    Wow, Tom! Just WOW!

    Mark!

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gals! Nice, relaxing weekend. Enjoyed all the racing Sunday, and hot dogs. Yesterday, son came over to refinish a new coffee table. He did the work, while I provided the tools and nutserts. Yep - ground out the pins in the legs so he could paint them, and some 10-24 nutserts and bolts to put it back together. Matches his home made furniture now.

Finished up the garage putzing for the time being. Made some wire shelves for parts bins, and got them off the counter. And reversed the "door" (table) hinges, making it a lot easier to get in there for the golf clubs. My bins for the shelf came too.

Being able to prop that other door open makes about 5* difference in the garage temp, with the wind able to flow through!

That was the last major garage deal until I can sell the junk in the middle. Now, I wait for the new pool filter and Zeolite to show up later this week.

Thanks, Tom. (tried to quote your post and delete what wasn't relevant, but for some reason the computer jumped back a bunch of pages) I assume a capital gains tax would apply, but that should be only for the gains in the last year, should it not? I haven't paid much attention in the past, but I would expect that is what I have been paying every year.

BTW, I wish you would stop posting pix of all that food. It makes me hungry. :)

Investments, capital gains, and taxes can be quite complex. You need to know about such things as short term capital gains, long term capital gains, LIFO and FIFO, average cost basis and a lot more. You really need to discuss this with an experienced tax preparer or preferably a CPA.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians!! Back to the retired workday routine - played 9 holes of golf with Lynn yesterday morning, then spent the afternoon at the pool. I'm exhausted.
