This is a big reason why I went with the off-road as well. I also much preferred the black fender flares.

I like that that my SR5 came with color matched fender flares, color matched bumper caps, and a black front bumper cover. It's like best of both trds in that regard. Already changed out my tail lights, headlights, wheels, tires, and suspension. Didn't want the rear locker as I will rarely even use the 4wd. Now if I could just find someone wiling to hood swap for some extra cash lol

I like the way the sport looks, I already have a dark green truck with black flares and bumpers so the change will look nice. And, full disclosure here, this freaking Taco is going to cost so much all I want it to do for the first 10 years is sit there and look pretty! Pull the boat to the lake occasionally, pull the side by side trailer to trail heads, etc.

I don't do any hardcore off roading anymore because I'm the fool who has to clean it and replace the broken stuff. I got that out of my system over the last 22 years with my ZR2. And I'm not into the Silver Lake dune scene so my Tacoma is going to have a pretty easy life. I'm not even going to drive it in the snow, I have the ZR2 for that.

So yeah, sit there and look pretty. Good Taco!

I did the ORAC 6’ bed because I wanted a truck and didn’t need to haul passengers or dogs etc. I also wanted to do some off roading and wanted the rear locker which has gotten me out of more than one jam.

I personally like the both, the hood scoop is kinda cool in my opinion. But for functionality I'd say OffRoad. Better to have the extra features and not need them than to not have em

Getting the MT was more important to me than a locker so had to go Sport. Add a locker later if needed.

They should sticky one of these OR vs Sport threads so we could skip the periodic rehash.

Sport owners, those of you that go off roading with your sports, do you have any issues without the locker?

Exploring forest/fire roads, nah. The e-simulated diff does a pretty good job for most things.

Going to a paid-admission ATV park and thrashing my daily driver on a rock garden and/or mud pool... maybe you'd want a real locker to do that.

Not yet, no. It’s very capable with Auto LSD. I did better than some locked trucks on our last wheeling trip, go figure.

If you are into hardcore off-roading and your rear wheels are constantly in the air, then rear locker is definitely a must.

@Taco_757 besides the cool posts above, this video (hopefully) will help answer your question. SR5 and Sport are very capable of handling trails without the lockers.

    OR:
    -Locker
    -Crawl Control
-Progressive coil springs (better articulation off-roading)

    Sport:
    -Hood Scoop
-consistent rate coil spring (better cornering performance)

Hood Scoop looks cool in MHO. (I wouldn't mind having it on my current truck)
Locker helps with traction on un-even ground, and slower and more controlled wheeling. (non-locker can do 90% of what a locker can do but you need a decent running start at it!)
Crawl control (only available on Automatic) can help you get out of bad situations (Works great for sand wheeling).

Both the locker and the hood scoop cost about the same to have it installed later.

Crawl control isn't a consideration if you want a manual trans. MT Comes on both Sport and OR.

The deciding factor is based on individual preference! And how that person intends to use the truck.

    -E-locker mediocre at best!
    -Hood Scoop Non-functional!

If you want it all and don't care to have your Brand New truck worked on to add these items? Get the PRO!

Great points. Another consideration is the OR is a couple thousand more (Up here in Canada at least). You could put that money into a better locker. Plus suspension will likely be upgraded anyways.

At our dealership they are both identical in price for the same levels of upgrades. e.g. Fully Loaded Sport or Off-Road both have the same MSRP.
