Sigh. There’s always shit heads ruining stuff for everyone.
Probably one of the coolest things I’ve seen in the northeast

There’s some other pretty cool stuff. The radar base doesn’t have the bubbles anymore, it’s just some old buildings. I will say, decent views.

There’s the ghost trains and some trestles in NMW. Really a lot of the NMW is pretty cool.

I'm going to have to second this recommendation. I've been up in the past but likely won't go again anytime soon. As a 'local' to the area I can tell you that the residents are getting really fed up with people disrespecting their property and have no second thoughts about reporting people for trespassing these days. Just stay away, let the dust settle, and just maybe somewhere down the road attitudes may change, but for the time being it's best to forget you ever heard of a lot of these places (Dorset Quarry, Sucker Pond, East Haven Radar Base, just to name a few). There are people working to legitimize motorized recreation in some of these area and trying to reopen them for vehicular access, but continued skirting of the roadblocks and restrictions that have been erected only hurts the effort and undoes a lot more of their hard work than you realize.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t trying to do any of that. I was just asking what the situation was.

I didn't think you were. I was just trying to provide some more context to the current situation up here.

    https://www.northmainewoods.org/maps/map.html

The Ghost Trains are not marked on the NMW map, but are on the southern shore of Eagle Lake where Chamberlain Lake has a northward pointing cove. The trains were used to move lumber across the gap between the two bodies of water. Located by the 'Scenic View' icon on my map here.

Ghost Trains at Eagle Lake -> Can be found on google maps.

North Maine Woods is a huge logging area open for the public to come in and explore, for a cost. It’s like 20$ For a day and night if you camp up there. @BadDNA has a trip planned late July, I have a trip over labor day weekend, and if you go on facebook and join 207 overland, that group is up in the woods a TON up there.

My recommendation would be either Mar/Apr/May, it might be soupy though. And then Sep/Oct/Nov.

Jun/Jul/Aug is BANANALAND for the black flies up there.

IDK what the price per gallon at your place was but I always fill up in Whitman, Diamond Fuel near the commuter rail is the cheapest around.

I found out the hard way that the vines around my trees were Poison Ivy. Until my neighbor, who is also allergic to it, pointed it out I thought it was just on the ground. I've got Poison Ivy the last two years and got it TWICE this year. I was cutting the vines back while wearing short sleeves and no gloves.

I found that the best thing to put on it is "Calamine Clear" from Walmart. It doesn't have any Calamine in it, but it has Pramoxine Hydrochoride (HCL) which is a good topical anesthetic and Zinc Acetate which is a drying agent. It kills the itching so you don't scratch and spread it and the Zinc dries out the blisters. It's about $3.00 for a 6 ounce bottle. It's not prescription as well.

I use Fels Napha laundry soap for washing. It comes in a bar and is about $2.00. I use it liberally when I take a shower after working in the yard. Napha also works as a drying agent so it takes care of the blisters.

I was putting the Calamine Clear on several times a day when I'd start itching again.

My neighbor uses Tecnu with good results, but I like what I use more.

I'm done brush cutting (I think) for this year, but when I was doing it I would toss the clothes in the washer by themselves right after I finished. I bought cheap gloves at Harbor Freight and tossed them after each use.

Everyone recommends against burning Poison Ivy. You can breath the smoke in and that will irritate the crap out of your lungs.

Because they have to show that they interviewed several candidates even though they already knew who they were going to pick.

The Cumby's on Oak Street used to have great prices, but in general Cumby's prices are pretty high now, even with Smart Pay. Same with Speedway, but I heard somewhere that 7-11 bought all of the Speedways and that the prices were raised afterward.

BJ's in Stoughton has the best price around, but I think you need to be a member. You can save even more if you get the BJ's credit card, but I have too many already.

Oooof. Yeah I'm onto the dollar store glove game now too. I am back on my allergy meds too, I don't know if it's placebo or not but yesterday I took them and the itching went away within 10 minutes. It's just generic Claritin. But whatever. If it does that I'm happy to take it another couple weeks.

Sidenote. Tonneau cover. Are these needed? They're on there but they're slack and aren't doing anything. With these it's more of a pain to get on and off. Without them it's like a 60 second job to remove the thing. it's an extang soft TRI fold 2.0 if that matters. If they're not needed for this truck then I'm cutting them off.

I wasn't allergic to poison ivy until I turned either 35 or 36. I could work in it and everyone around me would get the worst rashes and I'd get nothing. Then one year, poof, it was all over.

As an aside, I saw Top Gun: Maverick today. I haven't been to a movie since probably early 2019 since I couldn't justify spending the money (independent of the pandemic). What a great film. It was the perfect mix of fan service without pandering, decent story and stunning visuals. I HIGHLY recommend it.

As a second aside, Patriot Place was showing Smokey and the Bandit tonight at 7, I would have loved to see that on the big screen. I don't think there's a better Saturday afternoon movie.

Its a safety latch, there like safety chains on a trailer so if it comes loose something stops it from going through the windshield of the guy behind you. Leave them on is my advice so you don't decapitate someone on accident.

I mean even as an engineer who deals with safety seems a bit overkill. Since they're secured using the same system as the rest of it.

Ah well. Safety sake. I don't plan to take it on off a lot. On for winters, and road trips. Otherwise off. So. Easy enough.

Its more for human error then mechanical failure. Like trailer safety chains attach to the same point as the hitch, if the hitch on your car fails the chains do nothing, its more for people who leave the pin out or don't latch the ball. You sure its not some kind of quick disconnect for them? My lomax cover has quick disconnect for them.
