Always wanted to drive a mini-Cooper. I raced against them often and they were unbeatable. One of the few cars where a driver couldn't compensate enough to beat the car.

 

I’ve driven a new one, it was okay. I’d love to get into an original like the one I saw there.

I remember seeing old pictures of new Chevy Vega's in train-cars and they were stacked vertically, maybe that contributed to them being such piles of garbage.

 

i think those ford trucks were the 9 foot beds that was once an option

 

They were crap because of the cost-saving measures made in the alloys. Had they used better steel you'd see a helluva lot more Vegas around.

It was a great car plagued (and killed) by accountants.

 

I'd like to find a good Vega body and use one of those Pontiac Solstice engines and transmissions in it. A lot of buyers of the Solstice take the engine out of a brand new car to put an LS in them. Then the original engine gets junked or stored to gather dust.

 

They were the most sought after car sbc and bbc engine swaps . And if you wanted a cheap and easy to find performance torque converter look no farther than a stock 10" converter from chevy vega . Put a vega converter behind a 283 or a 327sbc and it would flash stall to 3500rpm

 

Funny you should mention that - I work with a guy who LS-swapped his Saturn Sky....a year before it was demolished in an accident.

He drives a gigantic 2500 HD Silverado now.

Well, years ago now I spoke with a GM employee that told me a story of the camshafts being machined and the shavings remaining on the table which would drill the cam bores incorrectly into the block causing the oil leaks but management just wanted to get them out so they could get their bonuses

 

Does he still have the Saturn engine/trans? What is he doing with it?

 

No idea, so I just pinged him on Teams. He sold it (and two other vehicles) to pay off a 1966 Corvette with matching numbers.

He occasionally (like an idiot) drives it to work, and there's NO WAY I'd park a '66 Vette in this parking lot. I posted a picture of a while back - it's gorgeous.

 

I must be an idiot then. I drive and park my 2019 ZR1 everywhere.
