Best tonneau cover?

LoMax is a very low profile, well made cover... It was my choice as well.

 

Was checking out the DB on their site... I esp like the dead deer in the back with the bloody sawzall

I'm a bit concerned about the internals though...for the price, I would expect better quality material.

Either way, I agree...it's a sturdy/handsome tonneau cover.

 

I like the factory tonneau. Very sturdy and I like that I can remove it by myself in under a minute. It has faded some but I think that’s going to happen with any dark plastic. I also didn’t really do a lot to take care of it.

 

Not sure I would consider this a glowing testimonial for something that costs as much as that cover does.

 

I may be overly critical…it’s likely they used a lot of lightweight aluminum with a lot of play in it on purpose so as the truck vibrates during normal operation it’s less likely to snap or crush something that has super tight tolerances. That said….it was definitely underwhelming after spending so much on it.

 

Could you link me and maybe give a quick rundown of what you did?

 

Diamondback
Solid, secure, durable, and looks bad ass

 

Only had my Diamondback for about 2 weeks but I find it to be well built. If it's rattling or shaking its not installed properly. Mine is tight and solid. You need someone sitting on the cover when closed when you adjust the mechanisms and it will be nice and tight.

 

Agreed. Mine is 2.5 years old and looks as new as the day I put it on. Solid and secure. I’m sure it’s not “the best” for everyone, but I love mine.

 

When i bought my truck the dealer supplied me with a bottle of wolfstein tonneau protectant...recommend me to apply it every couple months or so during the hot summer. My cover after 2 1/2 years still looks like the day i got the truck.

When people talk about the factory tonneau, are you referring to the one listed on the Toyota site I believe they call it the BakFlip Hard Tonneau cover?

 

I believe the factory tonneau is different from the bakflip trifold.

 

Its a hard tri fold cover that has the letters tacoma embedded on the top rear of it. Imo, its as good as any of this type i've seen out there.

Has anyone done mods to their covers to prevent coathangers from opening the cable? I think I remember someone adding 1 inch aluminum angle as a shield, but I can't find the pictures

 

This really depends on personal wants/ needs. Not really ideal to compare soft vs hard vs tri-fold.

I went with UC flex for my 6ft bed, good cover, and works as intended, but if I had to buy one again , I would go with bakflip.

 

I keep going back and forth between the bakflip mx4 and the Lomax. Plan on buying through @truckalter either way. Just can’t make up my mind!

 

I think this is a good decision.

The Lomax is nearly invisible when down, almost level with the bed sides, yet allows you to retain your factory tie down rails and brackets.

The biggest negative to any tri-fold cover is, when open, you still lose access to the front of your bed. You have to plan ahead if you are going to pick up something where you’ll need full bed access.

The positives are that when it is down, the bed is really secure (especially if you use a tailgate lock such as the OEM one). Also, the Lomax is easily removed and fairly light weight, so if you know you might need the full bed, just leave the cover at home.

Bottom line for me is, if I prioritize security, I want a tri-fold cover with the ability to be easily removed if needed. The Lomax meets that need for me.
