I've looked through many awesome build threads so I figured I'd start my own so everyone can see how my rig is progressing in its own unique way. My truck is a 1998 Tacoma SR5, TRD 4x4 with the 3.4L, 5speed. Thanks for looking.

So far these are my mods:

-OME suspension lift (882 coils with N91 shocks up front and Dakar leaf packs with 60060 shocks in rear)
    -4inch deck plate mod
-changed ugly green dash lights to orange

    Planned future mods

    -BFG AT 265/75/16 tires
    -Raceline Renegade wheels (black)
    -Shrockworks or ARB front bumper
    -Flowmaster 50 exhaust

Yah, looks pretty retarded right now. Hopefully within 2 weeks I'll have new (bigger tires) and new wheels. :)

yeah go for the bigger tires first! about your future Flowmaster- i run a Super 44 (on a 2.7l), but i had a friend that ran one on a 3.4l... loud, but sounded great! i don't know exactly what sound/performance you are looking for, but Super 44's are great on these trucks

I had considered the flowmaster 40, but I don't want something that loud.....just a subtle exhaust note. I've heard that removing the cats will give the flowmaster 50 a slighty louder sound but I need to look more into what is involved with that.

Thanks man! I never knew this truck could be so much of an obsession! I'm really looking forward to doing more mods.

The experience has been great so far. I've had my truck for 4 years now and just recently I decided to start doing mods. Its got 174k on it but that doesn't bother me. I'm a true believer in Toyota dependability and quality. My mom has a 99 4runner and my dad has a 00 Tacoma both of which have close to as many miles as mine and not a single major problem, and now I think I've inspired them since they're both thinking about lifting their vehicles!

Yah, I don't like the chrome myself. Gonna black out the grill and door handles and hopefully, when I have the $$ get black front and rear bumpers. Black wheels will be here in 2 weeks!! I see you blacked out your bumper. What did you use for paint? Did you sand the chrome or just paint over it.....looks good by the way.

I've never really liked the color of the dash lights on my truck....kinda outdated looking. Since one was burned out behind the gauges and another behind the HVAC controls I changed them to orange.

Took me 5 min to get to this point to replace the bulbs behind the HVAC controls. Stealership wanted $60 to replace that one bulb!!

The four big green twist tabs (or whatever they are) are where the lights are.

A little blurry! Looks like the dash lights on the 01-04 tacos and I like that color a lot better. Seems to be easier on the eyes than the green when driving at night.

For anyone interested in doing the same I found the project really easy, just a little time consuming to get to the gauge pod. The # for the lights for the HVAC are a 74 (2 bulbs) and the ones behind the gauges are a 194 (4 bulbs). I bought the bulbs at O'Reilly's and was told that those numbers are the same for all bulbs of those sizes no matter where you buy them. Just not sure if all 1st gens use the same bulbs though.

I guess I should have looked on here first. I already posted on your build thread asking if that was you I saw! Thats funny you recognized me by the dent.....I hate that thing, but I guess if it makes my tacoma unique I can deal!!
