I found a 2010 Tacoma with 43k miles on it last week on Carvana, and it will be delivered later today. Looking for any tips on items to check for before accepting the delivery. Obviously checking the frame for any rust issues, but aside from that I'd appreciate any tips on other specific items worth checking out.

    Previous owner was from Illinois.
Model: Tacoma 4 X2 ACCESS CAB
    Engine: 4 Cylinder
    Transmission: 4AT

    Thanks!

You could enter the info into kbb.com to see what kind of deal you’re getting. If you have a obd reader plug it in to see if it has codes and read the long and short fuel trims.

Agreed, not wrong. My local market isn't much better on the inflated prices of trucks at the moment but our previous car bit the dust last week so its part urgency motivating it at the moment. My main goal was to at least make sure to find something that held its value even if the timing and situation were not great.

That seems pretty steep for a access cab 4 cylinder

I paid $17.5k for my 2010 v6 double cab, long bed 4x4 in CA.

edit: this was in 2020 when prices were already getting crazy.

Not to be a dick but holding its value doesn't really matter when you are way over paying for a vehicle.

    Where are you located?

That's an unholy ripoff. You can easily find a V6 4WD truck for that price with mileage around 100k.

    For a 4cyl. 2WD 5-lug, it is overpriced.

As far as items to look at, check for rust over the entirety of the frame, and check well.

Make sure all the electronics and switches work well, check codes and fuel trim, check the inside of the tailpipe (black and dry is normal), make sure it starts up, runs through the RPM range with no load and under load well, and shifts well (if you have an scanner with the capability, check the amount of time from the commanded gear change to the actual gear change), check fluids, see if there are any other available service records—CARFAX shows it's only been serviced 3 times in 12 years by the PO (maybe they did all the maintenance themselves, but who knows).

Go to Edmunds.com or KBB.com and select: "Appraise my Car", check the options that apply and condition fields and see what it returns for a value. NADA.com is a good one too.

Just curious but why would you buy a truck that’s from Illinois? It’s 12 years old now and probably will have a rusty frame. I think Carvana has some sort of a return policy so I would definitely check the frame really well.

Like others said, you can likely find something with way more features for this money, at very least a prerunner which is 2wd but has lots of suspension options. The 5 lug you are looking at has very few aftermarket options unless you want to lower it.

But. If this is the one for you..

Electrically make sure the horn and cruise control work, clock springs go bad often. Look at the temp/compass readout in the overhead console (if there is one) to make sure it still lights up.

Rust wise.. Check under the seats and dash for signs of rust (indications of leaks from the windshield or third brake light)

Specifically for the access cab look at condition of the door seals and the latch on the body where the rear door locks for rust.

Mechanically, work the AC hard, especially with low miles you want to make sure the AC blows cold and maintains without the light blinking or anything.
