Often with older rural properties the septic is listed as "existing", meaning that when you flush the water goes away and the seller makes no warranty to any compliance.
Operating under the idea of "it ain't broke" -- if it has served all these years you probably should be fine.
Treat the septic well, it usually returns the courtesy.

Few years ago ours needed pumped, it was slow draining when taking a shower and such. I could not locate it anywhere with a probe. I finally called the county and they emailed me the layout of it. It had some tail lines added in the late 1990's and had exact dimensions where the tank was from the well and the corner of the house. I measured and started digging, it's about 2' deep :D

Public sewer is surely convenient -- and you pay for that convenience.
Some municipalities charge a flat fee, others have a base plus a tie in to the water consumption. Figure at least $100/month around here.

I was in a store the other day talking to someone about our well, the cashier made a smart comment about well water. I looked at her and said water is free, you just have to get it through the pipes :D

The house was built in 1965 and at the time septics we're built using concrete block for the most part. It was in the transition era to cast concrete from what I'm told. This system has been upgraded somewhat "recently" It's a 1,000 gallon concrete tank and even has a nice plastic access port that the screws aren't even rusted out yet. The piping going from the house to the tank is also PVC which the original pipe was not. There's been some work done to it. Guess I could pull the last permit at the township office.

As far as care, nothing goes in there but body waste and TP, along with waste water. Any cooking greases or residues are cleaned out with a paper towel. I do have a dishwasher, but it actually uses less water than hand washing and the pods I use are septic safe. All laundry detergent is septic safe as well. I try to remember to use an enzyme additive once a month.

Our town has that setup. Whatever water you use , you pay a sewer fee on. My water bill is usually 30 bucks a month.

Yesterday the bus that took us out to Hoover Dam blew a radiator on the interstate. They limped it to a PF Chang's parking lot and got a new bus in.

This was mine when I was a kid, it’s one of two or three things that survived.

    8D975476-F251-4CF3-B5BD-DACF0472DD4E.jpg

The hitch got broke last week.

“Dad can take it to work and fix it”

So I free handed a new hook/hitch point.

And put it in the aluminum repair from a couple years ago.

Along with the other repairs through the years of the kids enjoying it :D

And this was the longest flushing toilet I've ever used in my life. Had to have gone for a minute.

It's at the top of the dam in one of the towers.

The dam is so cool. I've seen a Modern Marvels episode about it but would love to see it in person one day. Thanks for sharing!!!

Yes sir, it reminds me of the scrape blade my dad made my brother and I. 2 pieces of 1/8" X 2" welded together with a hole drilled for a bolt to hitch it to our tractor. Simple, but dad made it
